All in the Details

I am sucker for blazer/jackets. I probably own at least 20+.  As my collection of blazer grows and along with the lack of closet space, I am trying to be a little more selective in what I buy.  I need to start asking myself questions like:
 - Do I already have something in this color/cut?
- Can I wear it year round?
- Can I wear for work and weekend?
- Does it need to be dry clean?
- Does it require alterations?
- Is it a trend or classic item? If it's trendy - is it worth the $$?

I know these are such simple questions that I should consider all the time when I make a purchase but I am way too impulsive.  So when I found this blazer at WHBM, I asked myself these questions and the answers led me to purchasing the jacket.  Yes, I do have a couple of gray blazers but he ruffle details on this jacket made it so classy & unique.  I also love the darts on the jacket which is flattering on most body types.  The details on this blazer made it so special - that it came home with me.

Do you have a questions for yourself or rules when making purchases?

On a totally unrelated note, I wanted to know if anyone has bought clothes from Boden? It's the Great Britian's version of J Crew.  The clothes are beautiful but I just have not taken the plunge.  If you have bought from them, I would like to know how their sizing and quality is.

  1. I am starting to come to the same decision making list as well. I am running out of space in my closet and already take up the entire closet in my old bedroom in my parents house. Starting next month I am going on an aggressive clean out of my closet and def need to go on some sort of a retail diet.

    1. Good luck Bessie on your retail diet & cleaning of your closet. I have such a hard time with parting with clothes that still fits. Most of my clothes have only been worn a few times..I guess I need a shopping diet too.

    1. Thank you Steph - I love this dress. You can't really see in the pictures but there's some ruching on the side of the dress and that helps in hiding my tummy :)

  3. The details in that jacket are wonderful! I think you look fantastic in short booties and tights too. A really great look on you.
I'm pretty strict when I shop for myself because of my challenging body type and I'm very picky about color. If I go outside my boundaries I always end up getting rid of whatever it is. Sounds kind of boring though, doesn't it? I did recently buy a furry vest (finally) in a smoky teal color I'll post soon. It's a bit outside my zone but in a good way, I hope!

  4. That is a really gorgeous blazer with some incredible little details. I try to ask myself if I already have something in my closet similar to what I want to buy. If so, I usually pass. I like to splurge on my classic pieces that will last forever and add trendy inexpensive touches every season to update them.

Thanks so much for linking up today!

    1. I agree with your shopping philosophy - if it's a classic piece it's totally worth the money.

  5. This blazer is so pretty Alice. I love all the gorgeous details.
I don't usually wear blazers because they feel constrictive to me, but they really do add something to an outfit, don't they?

    1. I can see how blazer can be constrictive - especially when they are buttoned up. I am hoping this blazer will be used for years to come :)

  6. This is the year I take a more aggressive view of my closet as well. I think for me, I ask more quality questions (is it classic and timeless, will the fabric hold up year after year, is it worth the price) because I become very attached to items I love. If the cost is great for a classic piece in a great fabric, I don't mind paying for alterations. But I won't pay $40 for disposable fashion and then have to alter it as well. Great topic!

  13. I own 2011's version of thi beautiful Gray Corduroy Blazer. I, too own a lot of blazers, most of them from WHBM. What I need is a few colored blazers. I would love to get a: Cobalt Blue one, Red, Bright Yellow & Hot Pink. I would also love a Versatile, Polished Navy Blazer.

Hahahaa Alice. I actually wrote this post yesterday and between the time and breast-feeding needed for my baby, it took me 3.5 hours to finish it. I have, however scheduled some posts for this week. You are welcome about being featured. =)

Also, please start following my blog if you haven't already. In honor of the baby, I will also run a giveaway sometime in the Spring for all of my valuable followers. =)

    Have a Great Monday!!
