A New Year

Yesterday was the official start of the Year of the Snake.  I love Chinese NY since it's my cultural heritage and always brings back happy childhood memories.  Some of the fun things about the NY is celebrating with loved ones, lighting firecrackers, eating sweets, receiving a red envelope with $$$ (I don't receive them any more since I have a child).  May you have a healthy & prosperous year of the snake!

Red is the color of prosperity & happiness.  In honor of my heritage, I am wearing red today.  And since it's almost Valentine....maybe for that too.

BTW, did anyone stop by Target yesterday to pick up the new Prabal Gurung collection?  I did not have a chance to stop at store but did order a couple items online.  I can't wait to receive it.  If you were able to buy some pieces at the store, I would love to hear your feedback on the quality/cut of the collection.

I am so tired as I am writing this.  I have been sick all week and at a work conference (not a fun combo).  Than we decided to go to California Adventure on Sunday afternoon and came home and watched the Grammys.  What a great show!  I did not have a chance to watch it all yet so I can't say what's performance is my favorite yet.  What was your favorite performance?

  4. You look gorgeous in this bright red. Happy New Year!
My brother in law is Chinese and loves this time of year. He's very superstitious too and does all these little ritual things to his house around this time as well. I can't even remember them all!

    1. Yes the Chinese culture is very rooted with traditions/superstitions. There are food that you are suppose to eat to bring health & prosperity. I remember my mom cleaned like a mad woman the week before new years to make sure all the bad spirits are away. Then on New Years' we weren't allow to wash our hair because we would wash away all the good luck! I am a bad Chinese, i did neither of these things and don't really follow any of the traditions.

  7. My manager is Chinese/American and she always brings in some goodies for us on Chinese New Year :-) I didn't shop the Prabal Gurung collection .. but may look online to see if anything is left. I didn't really like the clothing, but loved some of the jewelery.

    1. I live in a community where there are a lot of Asian markets but I never go to them. These special times of the year, I wished my mom lived closed so she can pick out off the yummy goodies for me. I am so lost when I go to the Asian markets. Enjoy those treats!

    1. Thanks Ani - it's funny whenever I am at an Asian ethnic place, they assume I am that nationality. Whenever I go to get my nails done (which is rarely), they always assume I am Vietnamese. I would love to learn more about your German culture too! We are suppose to be visiting Germany later this year so I really need to make sure I read up.

    1. Yes I miss those hong bao days! You are too funny that you have a cutoff degree for peep toe. I felt like such a wimp since it was only a 100 yards of walking outdoors & I was freezing!

  20. You look beautiful in your holiday red, for both days! I remember wrapping silver half-dollars in red ribbon for the children of family friends, the Chungs. I was crushed when I found out that I didn't get to go to the party when I knew the kids would be there!
So sorry you've been ill ... hope you recover very soon.
My husband and I got up at 5:30 am to dress and drive the 40 miles to the Prabal Guruang/Target collaboration. We were there in time for me to grab sizes and try on, but by the time I got out of the dressing room there were lots of 20-somethings milling around and grabbing sizes. Unfortunately, our little country store only had a couple of the items I originally wanted, but I managed to find two sleeveless tops, a dress to wear later, and floral long sleeved t-shirt to wear now. My husband actually found a pair of fabric, pointy-toe stillettos in the abrstracted stripe print Gurung features. I'll wear them all summer, and mix and match them with prints and solids. He's a peach, my Huz. Really, they're the best things I bought, those shoes!

    1. You & your hubby are dedicated shoppers! I am not so sure I would wake up so early and drive so far. I think reading your comment has totally made me realize I take living in the city for granted. I have at least 4 Targets that I know of that's less than 10 miles from where I live.

I ordered those heels you are describing and can't wait to get it. They look so pretty online!
