Lace Shorts

Happy Friday! I can't believe we are heading into July - time flies when you are having fun.  I am not particularly happy with these photos but I am in love with my lace shorts that I picked up at earlier this year.  I've worn them a LOT on the weekends, they are super comfy with just a bit of femininity with the lace and the pretty mint color.

Kate from A Journey in Style recently wrote about wearing shorts in public and how it makes her feel self conscious .  I can honestly say 100% that I feel the same way about shorts though I know no one really cares.  I naturally have large legs that makes it impossible for me to find jeans (we will save that topic for another day).  As a lady of certain age, I would never wear daisy duke type shorts.  However, when I tried wearing Bermuda shorts - I don't end up looking cool like this J Crew ad.  Instead, I feel extremely frumpy.

These will be my go to shorts to this summer since they seem to go with everything.  What's your go to piece for the summer?

Have a great weekend!

Boden

Happy Wednesday!  I don't receive too many catalogues in the mail any more, not sure it is the company's way to be more green or to save some $$ since most shoppers just shop online.  So I was surprised to received a Boden catalogue a few months ago.  I had never heard of them and leafed through and they have some very cute items and in my opinion, England's version of J Crew.

They offered free shipping both ways so I was tempted to order a few items and give it try. The skirt was the only item I decided to keep.  I've had this skirt for a couple of months and just finally decided to post these photos.  The skirt is paired for summer/spring office wear and then for a cooler tempts.

Do you get a lot of mail catalogues?  And have you discovered a brand from them?

Milly for Banana Republic - 2 ways

I think it is clever marketing of higher end designers collaborating with mass retailers to get their name out.  They gain so much brand awareness and hype with these collaboration.  I still remember how crazy everyone was for the Target Missoni line and how expensive these items were listed in ebay.

You can call me a sucker when it comes to these collaborations, I loved BR's collaboration with Trina Turk last year and this year's with Milly does not disappoint.  The vibrant colors and patters makes this lady drool in excitement.  I did order a bunch of items and kept this top and this dress.  I was super bummed that this dress fit me so poorly.  I ordered this top just to try and when I got it, I was impressed with the laid back look and great colors and pattern.

I am so excited to share this post with Tara from Mix and Match Fashion.  We are both styling this top in 2 different ways.  Tara styled her top for the weekend with an adorable striped bag and I styled if for work with a pop of pink.

What's your favorite item for this collection?

Sky High

I have been on the hunt to replace my pink heels which is starting show it's wear and tear.  I am not too sure how many pairs I've tried on and returned and still could not find the one.  That is until I spotted these beauty on sale at Nordstrom's 1/2 yearly sale.  I ordered them in my regular size and got them and they were way too big so I had to return them and ordered them a 1/2 size smaller.  Totally unrelated, but I love Nordstrom's easy return policy.  I think it's best to try things on at home and if you don't like it - just drop it back in the mail.  So easy and no more looking for parking and trying to figure out if a piece of clothing goes with other items in your closet.

Anyways, I digress, back to the shoes...

I wore them to work and they were pretty comfortable.  My girlfriend commented that my shoes were so high and asked how I was able to walk in them.  So when I got back to my desk, I measured them and was surprised that these heels are 5" high! That's the highest pair of heels I own.  Though it is on the high side, it did not feel like because of the hidden platform.  It got me thinking, when is a heel too high?  I am not going to pull a Lady Gaga and I am thinking 5" will be my limit.

What is your heel height limit?

Vegas Recap

My family and I had a little weekend getaway in Las Vegas a couple of weekends ago.  We stayed at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay which I highly recommend for family with kids.  Each room has a separate living room and bedroom which means the kids can sleep in the living room.

Going to Las Vegas sure has changed since having kids.  It used to be doing whatever you please and staying up till dawn and sleep in and repeat.  Now it's in the pool early in the morning, sight seeing in the afternoon followed by an early dinner than back to the bedroom to rest (because I am too tired from the day's activities).  It is still a lot of fun to people watch but I need to be mindful of the time because the later it gets, the wilder Vegas gets.

Since Vegas is only a few hours away, we always drive which kind of means I can bring a GIANT suitcase.  I am horrible at packing and did bring more outfits than needed but this time, I tried to stay in a similar color scheme to limit the amount of accessories I take along.  That's a start at smart packing right?

If you are a smart packer, please share your tips.  I need help.

Outfit #1 - this is for the drive.  I wanted to be super comfy as the passenger.  My hubby is awesome, he drove the whole 4 hours.

For me personally, outfit #3 takes the cake.  For a couple of reasons...
1. I have this dress so I know I will wear this to a wedding.  The dress is gorgeous in person. The color is truly vibrant and I bought thinking I can wear it to work by wearing a suit jacket or wearing it as a skirt with a top.
2. Totally my style - sophisticated elegance and not too tight or showing too much body parts.
3. Age appropriate for someone like me who is a bit older.

However, I do love the other 2 outfits too.  #1 is just so edgy - not something, I would normally wear but the hem makes it so oh la la.  #2 the dress is so versatile can be used dressed up and down.

At the end of the day, it is doable to look perfect for a wedding with a $250 budget.

I would love to hear your opinions about my outfits.

One Maxi Dress - 3 Ways

This maxi dress is one my work horse for the summer. I love that it's basic and so comfy (almost pajama like) with such a vibrant color.  I have styled it 3 different ways here with just some slight changes.  My hubby was agreeable to wait for the changes to take these pictures...now if he can only point out the my necklace was messed up on the last outfit.

How do you change up your maxi dresses?

P.S.  Thank you so much to all that voted for me for a chance to win a gift card on Chippmunk.  Now I just have to sit tight and see if I am a winner.

Proud Parents

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend.  We started with attending my son's preschool graduation.  I know all parents say this but I can't believe how quickly kids grow!  He's been with lot of these kids since he was 3 months old so parting ways will be difficult. We are so proud of our little man.  We are truly blessed with the happiest and friendly little guy.  He uses manners and rarely gets himself into trouble.

I wore this dress to work and attend his graduation.  I recently bought this dress from the Loft (just last Thursday) because I love the print (how fun is the tropical print!), color and comfort of the dress.  This dress is on the casual side with the spaghetti straps so I wore it with a blazer.  Just by removing the blazer and changing into some fun sandals, it made the outfit much more weekend ready.

I love outfits like these where you can change the look just by swapping out one or 2 items and you are good to go!

Also, thank you everyone for the suggestions in how to improve my blog and entering my 1st giveaway.  The winner of the $25 gift card is: Kimbercrafts! I will be sending you an email shortly.

P.S., I am asking for a favor, chippmunk.com is hosting a contest where they are giving away up to $750 in gift cards.  Please vote for my stylish and bargain find to increase my chances!  The votes are close so every vote counts.  Please Vote here and I thank you for from the bottom of my heart!!  You can vote once a day :)

The Power of Social Media

I wore this outfit yesterday and it was based on my adorable flats that I ordered from J Crew Factory.  You can't see in these pictures but these flats are red with blue polka dots - super adorable (I promise) and they are super comfy.  It was the first time I am wearing them and my foot must have hit something and a piece for the fabric actually came off.   I was so bummed and posted a picture of the damage on Instagram  & Twitter. I purposely did not include #JCrew or @JCrew on my comments because I wasn't expecting any response.  I was bummed at my carelessness and the quality of the shoes.  Within 5 minutes, I received a private message from J Crew to tell me that I can exchange/return the shoes.

So the question now is, do I exchange them and take a risk that it may happen again or do I just return them?  I am leaning towards returning these adorable & stylish flats.

I am totally impressed with how quickly J Crew responded.  It's amazing how social media plays into a company's public image.  They have turned a negative experience to a positive one for me and I am writing about it.  So if you haven't joined Instagram or Twitter, I recommend to join and you would be surprised who may be checking out your photos or reading your tweets.

Daffodil

A recurring suggestion from all of you is that I post more casual outfits.  This maybe a challenge for me since  my job requires me dress a certain way.  On the weekends, we are always running around and late to everything that sometimes we forget to take pictures.  I will keep this in mind and attempt to incorporate more casual outfits into my blog rotation.

I wore this last Thursday to work which was my Friday because I had taken Friday off.  I had no plans to visit with any clients so I attempted a little more relaxed outfit.  My husband said I looked like a flamenco dancer.  Do you agree?

Look Who's Turning 1!

So I thought my blog turned 1 today...I was wrong!  I just looked at the date of my 1st post and realized my blog turned one last Monday so I guess I am actually a week more wiser at blogging than I think I am.

Before starting the blog, I was taking my outfit photos as a way to catalogue what outfits I've created and be better at mixing my work and weekend clothes.  I created a board on PInterest to help me visualize what I was doing and that's where I discovered fashion blogs.  These blogs were all so beautiful and I wanted to be part of this community.  I did some research and thought I will learn along the way.

I realize that I do not write about anything earth shattering and my outfits are not stop the traffic double take type of outfits so I do appreciate all of your support.  I love the relationships that I've created and have learned so much more than I expected.

I still have a ton of learning to do (particularly software programming) and photography skills.  I probably need a grammar refresher class too since I am always finding grammatical errors when I read my posts a few days later. I also never thought I would have a twitter account and know how to use it....well maybe that's a stretch and I am not sure how to use my Facebook page for more interactive conversations.

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to THANK YOU for this past year and for the great learning experience that I am getting from blogging.  It goes without saying, also a big thank you to my hubby who grudgingly takes my photos everyday.  And my friends for letting me bombard their Facebook page with my outfit posts.

As a thank you to my readers, I would like to host my 1st giveaway!!  Please enter below for your chance to win a $25 gift card to your choice of: Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap, Loft, J Crew or Target.  Please leave a comment and give me suggestions on how I can improve my blog and also your email address so I can contact you.

Belted

I love belts, I have them in different widths, textures, colors and for all occasions.  I am not sure when belts became an accessory instead of a functional piece.  Whoever changed the marketing of belts are sure geniuses.  If they were styled just as a functional, I don't think I would own as many belts.  This outfit is a perfect example of how this belt is an accessory and not a necessity.  Somehow, I really like belts on peplum tops.  For me the add to defining the waist just a bit more and making any outfit just a bit more feminine.

Do you use your belts to add that extra oh la la to your outfit or simply to hold your pants up?  Belts are usually a must for me when I wear jeans with stretch.

Minnie Mouse

This is the first time I've worn this top and it's about 6 years old.  I remember I fell in love with it when I was pregnant and bought it for when I lost the baby weight.  The baby is now 5 and the weight has gone but somehow, this top was forgotten in my closet.  I still like this top but now it reminds me of Minnie Mouse (maybe I am going to Disneyland too much?).

Any recommendations on how to style this without looking like Minnie Mouse?
