Faux Leather Skirt

This colorblock faux leather skirt is another purchase I found at Ann Taylor.  I have never owned anything faux leather before so when I sat down in my car and tried to move....well it doesn't move well with leather seats.

As you are reading this, I am on a plane on much needed vacation!  You can follow me on Instagram (happinessatmidlife).  I have a ton of posts in drafts so things will be on normal schedule here.  Aloha!

It Finally Arrived

The Phillip Lim for Target collaboration seems so long ago with all the bloggers out there showing their  new scores (it was just 2 weeks).  I ordered a couple items online and it finally arrived!  I haven't decided what I am keeping but this top is so pretty I knew it was a keeper.

I love how Jan from Fort Smith Stylista styled this top so well too.

Ahoy Matey!

One of the great things I love as a parent is learning with my son.  Like a typical boy, my son is fascinated with all thing that are large with an engine.  He recently borrowed a book about cruise ships and has been so curious about it.  So what better way to learn about cruise ships than take him on one.

We are very blessed to live in Southern California where there is so much to see and do.  The Queen Mary is a cruise ship from the 30s that permanently resides in Long Beach.  It has since been turned into a hotel and host various events there.  Needless to say, we had a great time exploring and learning about the ship.  In case you are wondering, the ship is 1,019 feet long and carried 2,075 passengers.

Have a great weekend!

Falling Hard

I have fallen hard in love with Ann Taylor's fall line.  I am not sure how many items I purchased so far but I am pretty sure I accidentally picked up a whole new fall wardrobe.  Here are two of my recent purchase when they had 40%.  I don't really own any thing purple and very few leather trimmed items.

So you maybe seeing more Ann Taylor items in upcoming posts than normal.  This is not a sponsored post, I just really love their clothes.

Have a great Wednesday!

In Shocked!

Can I just say that I am utterly shocked at this moment because I was nominated for Voicebok's Top 50 Moms Who blog about fashion & beauty.  It still amazes me that people actually read what I post! And knowing that I am small tiny blogger in this world of bazillion blogs, I am truly shocked they even found my blog.
I am so honored to be included with such great group of ladies!  They are narrowing the list to the top 10 and I would love to be part of the top list.  You can help me make it to the Top 10 by voting for me by clicking here.

Thank you so much!

Now onto the outfit...

I have been really loving how blues and greens look together.  The combination of these colors and the fun diagonal stripes of this top made it a winner for me. Here's a green and blue striped top that I wore 3 ways.

Never Say Never

If you asked my younger self if I would wear fake leather - I would have quickly said "NO WAY!!".  Well flash forward to present day and I say "Yes Please!!".  It's amazing how technology has improved on making fake things like leather.  I remember it used to be very tough to touch and may get very squeaky and it produced an unattractive plastic scent.

I wanted to update my leather jacket to something a little more current but really didn't find the need to spend the money for a real leather jacket since it's really just for fun.  I came across this quilted jacket from The Limited and was surprised how soft to the touch it was.  I also had a 50% off coupon, a $15 rewards and $50 off purchase to help the cause.

I am not sure if it's such pure making genius because buying faux or vegan leather sure sounds a lot better than fake.  Don't you agree?

So what fashion style or trend did you never think you would never wear and was wrong?

Soccer Mom

Recently I was reading Suzanne Carillo's Style Files and her post got me thinking a bit about my own blog.  Some fashion blogs are of beautiful photos that look like they are right off the pages of magazines.  Others dress in high end fashion and others dress in outfits that are so daring and bold.

Me not so much.  I take my pictures in my backyard or in this case the front driveway.  I wear clothes that are straight off mass retailer stores and usually on sale.  This blog is my real life style that maybe kind of mundane to some.  I use this blog as medium to visually see what I've worn and also a sounding board with others that love fashion as much as I do.

So do I consider myself a fashion blogger?  I believe there's so many levels and niches for fashion and there's a place for everyone. So I am going to say yes I am a fashion blogger.

This outfit is what I wore to my son's soccer game.  Nothing fancy but super comfy.  Some may call this not blog worthy but guess what...I get to decide what I post and this it :)

Orange Stripe Shorts

Summer is coming to a close so I am wearing my summer clothes as much as I can.  These striped shorts have served me so well.  I love them so much that I purchased them in the 2 colors the offered (orange and navy).  Luck for me, the heat is here in Southern California typically until October so I should be able to wear my summer clothes a few more weeks.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Graphic Tee

When I go shopping for clothes, I tend to buy items that are more work appropriate since I spend most of time in work clothes.  Since starting the blog, I have really done a better of mixing my work clothes with weekend clothes.  There are just some items for me that will never be okay in my work environment like shorts (even dressy ones) or graphic tees.

I don't really own too many graphic tees or even plain white tees for that matter since I can only wear them on the weekends.  I recently discovered J Crew tees and how soft and comfy they are and now have a few of them.  Here's 2 ways I wore my graphic tee.

Look #1 - a casual dinner.  Using what I would consider a work blazer to dress up this outfit.

I told you on Monday that I am a lace kick and I am not kidding.  This lace top is not new but this is the first time I've worn it backwards.  As I was putting my outfit together the night before, I knew I wanted to wear this with a lace top.  I grabbed the top and without looking just slipped it on backwards.  The neckline felt a bit higher but I really liked the look and I thought it would go so well with my gold peter pan collar necklace.  I tried the top on the right way and it just did not look right with this necklace.

I swear I felt like a genius finding a top that I could wear 2 ways!  It's like scoring a new top.  No Nobel Prize but it totally made my day.   Have a great Wednesday and hope you have a genius moment too!

A Blue Dress

One aspect of blogging that I've really enjoyed is participating in weekly link ups.  Some link ups are anything goes and some are themed.  I've learned in the past year that themed link ups have really challenged the way I dress.  Anytime there's a monochromatic challenge, I feel stumped.  Why?  Because I can't see myself wearing for example a pair of red pants with a red top.  It just seems too much for me.  I tend to stick to all black which isn't really creative at all.  I always resort to wearing a solid color dress and call it monochromatic.

Here are 2 ways (if you can call it that) that I've worn my all blue dress.  This dress is really tough to change up with the side rouch that you can only change the color of jewelry and shoes.  I don't think these pictures do this dress any justice, it is really flattering in person and so comfy too.

How do you wear the monochromatic look?

Lace & Printed Pants

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Did anyone purchase score any items from 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target?  I wanted to purchase one of the purses and stayed up to midnight hoping that they would release it then.  Little did I know that they were releasing the bags via twitter and not the Target website.  I went to Target Sunday after lunch and not surprised, they only had a few of the men items left.  I have a ton of Targets near my home that I could have driven to but felt it was just not meant to be.  I did order a couple of the clothing items and we will see how they fit.

Lately, I am on a lace kick so you maybe seeing a lot of lace on the blog in the coming days.  What are styles are you into lately?
