Oversized Sweaters

I don't know about you but I think finding oversized sweaters is like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  I love the look of sweaters with tights but I do not want any of my lumps and bumps exposed.  Whenever I try on an oversized sweater, I tend to look like I am wearing a potato sack (and it's not pretty).  Maybe I am trying on sweaters that are too bulky for my liking.  I found this sweater which has a lighter knit and is perfect for our mild winters.  I ended up sizing up to make sure it was long enough to cover my parts.

I kind of wished I bought more colors since this sweater is so comfy.  Now if I can find a perfect oversized tee without looking like a sleeping shirt....

Evolving Style

I know that I probably dress a little too busy for some. As I get older, I seem to take a little more risk with what I wear and just wear it with confidence.  To tame this outfit a bit down, I chose a pair of nude peep toe booties.  Of course, these booties still has a bit of fun personality to them with the fun cutouts.

How has your style changed over the years?

Some days you just need a little bling in your life.  So why not add some sparkles with a necklace, a jeweled collar, a belt?  If you are like me, why not all of the above plus some bracelet and ring too.  Is there too much sparkles a gal can wear?

White Jacket

Long ago, I wore suits everyday to work.  I used to buy my suits mainly on clearance and thought they were such awesome deal when I find them for under $100.  The bad thing about wearing suits in a set is the sizing. For me, it's not really an issue since my top and bottom are the same size.  Stores have wised up and you can now buy suites in mix sizing.  Anyways, this jacket is part of my long ago past.  I never wore the pants that came with the jacket because they are so unflattering on me. I still have it hanging in my closet with the jacket thinking one day they will look good on me.  Reality just hit me that it will never happen and it's time to get rid of them.

It's probably silly of me to have held on the pants for so long for really no reason.  I think my reasoning is that my good deal is no longer a good deal if I got rid of the bottom.  Dumb reasoning but sometimes your mind does mysterious things.

Old Navy Love and Brown Boots

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend.  Recently, Old Navy has been creating some great designs that are fun and appropriate for work.  Take exhibit A (below), this whole outfit came from Old Navy and I didn't even have to think about dressing since it all came in the same order and it looked so cute in the package together.

I was in the elevator with another lady and she did a double take on me and said "Wow you are like an optical illusion with your reverse stripes."  I am not too sure it that was meant to be a compliment but I don't think so - I may be hurting her eyes with too much stripes.  If this is too much pattern for you, swap out the stripe blazer for a solid one and you are good to go.

Have strangers made odd comments about your outfits?  I sort of wished I could've ask her what she meant but the building is only 9 stories so there's we weren't in the elevator together for that long.

I love these brown Matisse boots that I bought a few years ago.  I use them all winter and hope they will last a couple more seasons. Here are some ways that I have worn my brown boots.  I think I see a trend that I like to wear my faux fur vest with them.

Path to Fitness - A Slippery Slope

What can I say, I am on slippery slope.  With Valentines and my hubby's birthday, we've had treats all week long. To make things worst, I was lazy and did not really do much grocery shopping this week and ate out at lunch. So needless to say, no weight loss this week.

I am just going to say this was a 2 week hiatus and will get back on it on Monday.  In the meantime, I wanted to share with you some fitness related apps that I use regularly.  Since I have an iPhone, I am only familiar with apps on iTunes.  These are popular apps so I am sure they are available on Androids as well.

I have been using this app off and on since I've had an iPhone.  One of my biggest problem is portion control and I love that this app keeps me in check on how much I eat.  When I am diligent in entering my calories, I do stop myself from eating one too many cookies.  There are features where you can add a friend and lose weight together.  I can say that I do not use this but I am sure it would be a great motivator.  Another thing I love about this app is the nutrition breakdown.  It keeps me in check with my sugar and salt in take and what vitamins are missing from my life.  I do take a myriad of vitamins each day but I don't log those in so I can see how much nutrients I am getting from actual food which is the best way.

The only downside on this app is that when you make something is homemade, it's all guesstimates and I am pretty sure that I underestimate.  I try to include all sauces I use to make the meal (olive oil etc...) because they do add up.  Another downside is that it doesn't give me room to take notes where I can see I am eating which would be helpful in keeping everything all in one place.

I use the Nike+ app whenever I run.  My favorite part of this app is a feature that you can turn on cheers and have your friends cheer you on the run.  It's posted on Facebook that you are running and when your friend likes the status, it sends clapping and cheers to push you along.  I swear that there were days that I was running and out of juice and then a cheer comes on and it gives that extra push.  It works with my iTunes music and I can create a running playlist to keep me motivated during the run.  Running with music is dangerous so I do have it on low so I can hear traffic.  Because I run alone, the music does pass the time and having an upbeat song will make me try to keep the pace of the song.

The downside to Nike+ or any running app is eats up your data plan with using the GPS signal.  And if you do any long runs, your phone's battery will probably die. I think the most I've ran with my phone was 14 miles before it died.

As much asI would love to buy everything organic for my family, sometimes the cost is just way too much to justify it.  I can never remember which fruits and vegetables you should buy organic and having this handy list makes it convenient.

Like the fruits and vegetables, this app help guide you to consume sustainable seafood.

Whole Foods is a higher end national grocery chain that is in the U.S. and U.K.  Their nick name is whole paycheck because well...the food is not cheap.  They do have great options of organic and healthy options that are not available in your standard grocery store.  Even if there's no Whole Foods near you, this is a great app with recipes, meal planner.

A feature that I like on this app is called On Hand.  You list the ingredients you have on hand and it searches it database on what you can make for dinner.  I am not very good at cooking from scratch so this is perfect for someone like me.

I use this app primarily to scan items when I buy items at the store.  It gives you a grading system on the item and why it was given that particular grade.  What I like about it is that it gives you alternative choices.  They have premium features that offers to help with fitness goals or reduce allergen foods.  I do not use any of the premium features so I can say if they are worth the value or not.

Do you use any apps to help you on your path to fitness?

Oversized Cardigan and Polka Dots

Happy Friday!  I hope everyone is ready of the weekend.  Always so nice to have a short work week. It will be a long time before I get another short work week from a holiday since the next one is Memorial weekend in May.  I should say that next week is another short work week for me - we are taking Friday off to spend the weekend at Big Bear.  My friends and I have been doing this for a couple of years and the kids have such a blast.  Usually there's a lot of snow in the local mountains and they just have so much fun sledding down the hills.  With our heat wave this year, unless there some crazy snow storm we will need to drive to one of the ski resorts to play with man made stuff.  This year, we are planning to have the kids in ski lessons.  I think I may join in the lessons too.

I think I've figured out why I am loving these long open cardigans so much.  It's because it covers my bum when I want to wear leggings.  This is a perfect casual Friday work outfit that's not overly casual yet super comfy.

What fun things do you have planned for the weekend?

Pink Tweed Jacket

I don't own too much clothes in pastels because I feel like it makes me look a bit washed out.  I bought this tweed jacket last year from Marshalls on clearance for under $20 and never really figured out how to to wear it. I like the soft colors and the pretty ruffle detail on the bottom of the jacket.

Tweed is always a lot of fun to wear since the tweed can be made of different color threading.  I liked that this one had some blue and grey threads in it and the fray edges just make it a bit more relaxed.  Unfortunately for me, the jacket ripped in the back on the first day I wore it and was the worst $20 spend.

Does anyone one know if there is a way to fix a rip through the tweed fabric?  I figured it would cost more than $20 to fix so I just tossed it in the trash.

Business as Usual

As you know, I was away for a work conference last week.  The conference was held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort & Casino just outside of Las Vegas.  My conference was business casual with one night of an awards dinner.  I always try to pack the minimal amount so it makes getting dressed easier in the morning since the days are typically very long.

I have a funny story that I have to share with you regarding my poor packing skills.  In addition to these outfits, I brought a pair of jeans and a couple tops to wear with it and also a floral skirt with a white top to wear.  On Tuesday night, my friends and I were walking to dinner (and there was a small mall right across the street).  There was a my usual haunts there (Loft, WHBM, Ann Taylor) and I wasn't loving what I had planned for to wear (not shown floral skirt with white top).  So after dinner, I stopped at Loft to see what they had.  I found the red floral dress below for under $20 and wore it on Wednesday.

Thursday morning when I headed to the ballroom for breakfast, I was in my travel clothes (jeans and a sweater) and I noticed that no one else was in jeans. That was when my coworker told me that the memo stated in Bold No Jeans!!  I obviously did not read that memo.  After breakfast, I went back to my room and changed to the outfit that I didn't like.

So my PSA for the day is: Read all memos before packing for a work event.

A little comment about this lace dress.  I bought it last year at the Loft and super clearance (under $50) for no reason other than it was pretty.  So glad I found a place to use it.  It's such a classic cut that it will last for years.  Sorry for the horrible iPhone selfie but it was dark by the time I was heading downstairs for dinner and was not in the mood to lug my camera with me.

My Kind of Neutrals

What colors do you think of when you say neutrals?  For me, it's black and white.  Though I wear a lot of colors,  black and white is always in my closet.  I love how versatile it is and is a color that you can wear year round.

No Creativity

If you are looking for fashion forward blogger with a lot of creativity, stop right here....this is not the place.  The last time I wore this top, I paired it with a pink cardigan and burgundy skirt (see picture below).  Without really thinking, I paired my top with the same color combo again.  It wasn't until I looked through my photos that I realized it is almost the same thing.

Path to Fitness - Week 11- A Major Slip Up

Can I say that life is just not fair!  Some people can eat whatever they want and never gain a pound.  I am the other camp that looking at food makes me gain weight.

This week, I really had limited control over my eating since I was at a conference most of the week.  I avoided bread, grains, sugar as much as I could during my stay and even got in a couple of workouts. The first night it was a mingle party when they had station of food consisting of mashed potato bar, carving station of prime rib & turkey, Greek salad and falafel and a plethora of deserts.  I had a slice of prime rib, turkey and some Greek salad and felt so sick from the fatty meat.

The next day, I asked for a gluten free lunch and got 2 slice of tofu the size of my thumb, more mashed potato and a grilled tomato.  I ate the tofu and tomato and felt very unsatisfied.  As you can see, I was very vegetable deprived.

We sat for 8+ hours a day and the workout I did was just not enough to compensate for the lack of activity.  By Wednesday, I was really going stir crazy and succumbed to sugar.  I had deserts and treats both at lunch and dinner.

I was really disappointed how much weight I could gain in 1 week!  I ate like crazy during holidays and didn't gain any weight.  I can't comprehend how I could have eaten extra 13,000 calories to gain the weight.  I am thinking there is a lot of butter and oils in the preparation of the meals.

I took 20 steps back this week but there's no excuses to get back on track.

On a bright note, I can finally do unassisted pull ups.  With Crossfit, we do a lot of workouts that involve pull ups.  I have never had the strength to do them and did the with a giant rubber band to assist me in getting my chin above the bar.  The workout was 20 as many rep as possible of: 5 pull ups, 10 push ups and 15 squats.  I did 3 pull ups per round and 2 ring rows per round.  For the first time in my life, I did 39 pull ups.

Let's hope next week will be a better week for me.

Winter Maxi

I have always kept my maxi skirts reserved from summer.  I think it's because my maxi skirts are made of very lightweight material so it would maybe a bit chilly to wear.

This is the first time I am attempting to wear one of my maxi skirts in the winter.  All I needed to do was add a heavier blazer and some boots and I am set.  I also wore tights underneath to keep my legs warm.

For those that celebrate Valentines, may you be with the one that you love today and always!

Didn't Feel Right

Do you have days when an outfit just did not feel right?  Today was one of those days for me.  I really like how it looks conceptually but when I look at these pictures, it's like "WOW what where you thinking?"

My trouble with this outfit are the boots.  I started with a pair of dark brown tights and some red socks and brown booties and it looked ridiculous.  Since it was a rainy day and I was running late, I quickly put these boots on and took the pictures.  When I got to work, it felt a little to unprofessional so I switched out to simple black wedges.  I think it's the combo of the shorter skirt with a tall boot that made me feel a little riske.

I am amazed how a pair of shoes does make a difference to an outfit and that my friend is the reason women need at least 1,000 pair of shoes :)
