Wearing this outfit has put me on a vacation state of mind. I just want to go sailing and have my cellphone turned off and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. Lucky for me, this maybe a reality since I am headed off to vacation today! We are headed back home to Hawaii and hopefully there will be some sun and beach time while visiting family and friends.
Old Navy Lightweight Printed Top (last worn here) Same
My weekend started on a bad foot with a car accident (I got rear ended but no one was seriously injured but my back is killing me). Then Friday night, we had a scary earthquake. I have been living in CA for 10+ years and this one was by far the scariest one I've encountered. It wasn't that long (probably under 10 seconds) but it was strong. I was on the couch and trying to figure out what to do. I ended up doing nothing.
I know having an earthquake is big news and all but the local news makes it so dramatic. One local news person was showing at a restaurant how bottles were laying down on a shelf. I personally think it's probably better not to show this because my husband and I started laughing since this was breaking news that bottles tipped over. I am not trying to make light of earthquakes...just the things our local news focus on. I stopped watching local news for this reason, they focus on the worst things.
Where do you get your news information from?
Now on today's news... my outfit. Had to do it - like I am writing about anything serious right??
Can I just say this has to be one of my all time favorite outfits. I have been wanting a midi skirt and found this one at H & M. I thought it would make me look short but looking at the pictures, I don't think it shorten me. When I wear a skirt like this, I swear all I want to do is twirl around all day. I promise you that I didn't but it would've been more fun than sitting in front of a computer.
Once upon a time, I loved hitting the malls and spending the whole day just walking around trying on clothes and people watch. Then my son came along and life changed significantly more ways than one. It wasn't so bad to shop with him when he was a baby but now that he is older, time is filled with sports, parties and everything else in between.
Due to the lack of time, I primarily shop online and find stores that have free shipping. I have found that I prefer online now because you can try things on at home with things I already own. The main con against online shopping is dealing with returns. There are stores that offer free shipping both ways but there are still a lot of stores that offer free shipping one way which means I do end up going to the mall at lunch to make my returns.
The other downside is that some stores offer different promotions in-store vs. online and sale pricing also varies. Of course, stores have to justify the brick and mortars and will do everything they can to lure you into the store.
I went to J Crew to make a return the other day and of course, I had to visit the sale section. I found this antique floral dress in the sale section. The skirt was not in the sale area but I asked the sales person to check and it was on sale for $139.99 plus additional 40% off, I have been stalking this skirt online for sometime but was not willing to pay full price. I haven't been shopping at J Crew long enough to understand their sales but it seems odd that they don't put all the sale items in one area and not have everything marked. If I had not asked the sales associates, I would not have tried it on.
Every Friday, we typically meet our friends for dinner and I typically like to do a quick change so that I am more casual. This outfit was a perfect example of how simple changes made such difference.
For work, I paired my buttoned up with a pink blazer and printed pumps. Using the same base (top and pants), I added a sweatshirt and swap out for flats and I am ready for a casual night out. The only problem was having my top tucked in all day, it got a bit wrinkled. Wished there was a quick way to get rid of wrinkles.
I am a big fan of blazers because they are easy way to complete an office outfit. They instantly make you look more professional and keeps you warm in most air conditioned offices. Most of my blazers are solids and can be probably be worn everyday and no one would really notice.
I've had this blazer for awhile and love it but do not wear it too often because it's such a unique blazer that people would notice if I wear it daily. See how I have worn it here and here. I think with the peplum cut, this blazer looks much better zipped up so that doesn't give me too many options on how to style it.
Hoping to reach out all of you stylish readers out there for suggestions.
Does anyone out there remember back in the day when McDonald's had characters like Ronald McDonald and Grimace? When I was looking at this outfit, the first thing that came to mind was ....I look a lot like the Hamburgular today.
Now that I am talking old school, I swear I remember there was a promo that McDonald's did that you had to do the Big Mac, Fillet of Fish rhyme and sing it correctly within 10 seconds to get a Big Mac for free or something. I remember trying and failing miserably.
It's been awhile since I've eaten at McDonalds. I am really trying to teach my son to make healthy food choices and McD is just not one of the places I want him to grow up with. He is almost 6 and has not had a happy meal. Me, on the other hand, may had had my share of fries from there. My high school was right across the street from one and I remember ordering french fries and ice cream and dipping my fresh fries into the ice cream. It's such an odd combo but so good.
There's something about black that it always feel right. You can pretty much wear it year round and not look out of place. I am no strangers to colors but sometimes it just feels so good to go back to black. I've had these pieces for some time now and wear these non-stop.
If you are always replacing your black cardigans because they fade, I highly recommend the WHBM Classic Black Cardi. I've had this cardigan for at least 5 years and just throw it in the washer. It looks as good as the first day I bought it even with a lot of ironing (since they always end up looking like a crumpled mess stacked in my closet). I love this cardigan because it's got such a classic style to it and has survived with how rough I am with my clothes.
Do you have a piece of clothing that has surprised you with it's durability?
As a mom of a young kiddo, we are very involved with sports. We are letting him play all the sports he wants so he can decide where his passion lies (truthfully, we are just trying to make him tired so he sleeps well). My son has been doing gymnastic for over a year and has also played basketball and soccer. He is now in the midst of baseball season and will soon be doing swim lessons.
So most weekends, I am dressed pretty comfy when we attend sporting functions. I love this faux lace tee - it's comfy and a bit more more fun that than a plain tee.
BTW, this is not where he plays tee ball, it's a small filed that's near he plays basketball. I have to bring my own chair to his tee ball games.
I ordered this skirt and when it arrived, it looked vaguely familiar. I realized I already owned something similar in my closet. In trying to be better on my shopping , I returned it. The good thing about this was that I remembered my skirt and decided to use it since it's been awhile.
I use Go Chic or Go Home to keep a virtual closet. Not all of my items are in there but I do make an effort to put it online if I made a recent purchase. I love this site because it connects me with other people that love fashion and there are great outfit inspirations. I am not sure why I don't pull up the site when I am shopping to browse through my own closet before making a purchase. I guess that would just make too much sense for me.
So I wore this outfit to work the and when I looked down at my blouse, I noticed a giant rip. If you look at the last picture, you can see that the tear is right next to the green ring by the buttons. It is such an odd place for a tear and I don't remember snagging onto anything. This is not a fancy shirt but I do love the color and pattern. Since it's made of cheap material, totally not worth trying to get it fixed and it went into the trash.
I am very tempted to replace it with this very similar top. I've got some cash rewards that will be starting soon so it may end up in my closet.
The color blush is so close to nude that it doesn't really compliment my skin tone. I've learned that by wearing some bright contrasting color, it can work. I've worn it today with green and I really liked how it turned out.
Do you avoid skin tone colors with fear of being washed out?
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Did the leprechaun stop by your house? Those tricky little guys turned our toilet water green and left some chocolate gold coins for my son. In honor of St. Patrick's day, we will be consuming some delicious corned beef and cabbage. And of course, I don't want to be pinched so I am wearing green today.
Hope you find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
I am so ashamed to write this post because who likes to admit failure right? For me keeping fit has always been a roller coaster ride. I will be really good with my eating and then let go a bit and keep letting go until I am back to square one.
Well, this is way to close to being back to square one. So bummed...I was really hoping by keeping this journal I would keep myself from repeating this vicious cycle.
I have no excuses on eating poorly, just enjoying life a bit too much.
I am serious about starting clean eating this week. I've got 2 weeks to go before vacation and would like to see me lose a few pounds.
