A New Adventure and a Giveaway

For those that celebrated Thanksgiving, I hope you had lots of delicious food to fill your tummies and great company to fill your hearts.  And for those that did some shopping,  I hope you scored some great deals for yourself and people on your list.  It was a great weekend of fun for our family and now I need to gear up of Christmas shopping.  Today's post is a long one.  I have so much to share with you.

First of, I caved and jumped onto the blanket scarf craze.  I am going to give you a back story on this.  Last year, this Zara scarf as seen on Atlantic-Pacific went viral.  It was selling like 3x the original price on eBay.  I actually had ordered it because I really liked the colors.  When I received it and wrapped it around me, it was so hot I thought I was dying.  It didn't help that California had it's warmest winters last year.  Realizing it was pretty useless, I returned it.

Fast forward to 2014, and it looks like the blanket scarf trend is still going strong.  I kept seeing it everywhere and sort of had remorse of returning it.  Then one day, Groopdealz advertised blanket scarf in several prints for a very reasonable price.  And yup, I jumped right back on the trend.  I received the scarf and it is as advertised.  To be honest, I am having major buyer's remorse because even when it's cold for California (low 60s), we do not need this heavy of a scarf.  I am totally struggling with how to wear this without over heating. This has been my only attempt to use the scarf as an accessory.  So sadly for this pretty blanket scarf will be more a blanket than a scarf.

Now you must be wondering what is my new adventures.  I don't talk about beauty tips or finds on this blog because I am pretty basic when it comes to my beauty routine.  I honestly don't do anything fancy and wash my face with Cetaphil to wash my face and moisturize with Exuviance products for years.  The only place that I been obsessed with is my eyelashes.  And my eyelashes, I should say the lack of eyelashes.  The have always been sparse and straight and adding mascara did nothing for them.

I started using Latisse a few years ago and it did make my lashes a bit longer than what they used to be.  I was not one of the lucky ones that have results amazing results (where I have to trim my lashes) but it did make my lashes a little bit longer and fuller.  I still use Latisse several times a week because if I stop using it, that would be back to my sparse lashes again.

I have tried using false lashes and what a nightmare that is. I tried both the small individual lashes and the whole ones and they were both difficult to apply and I would use too much glue or can't place it in right spot so I just end up looking way too scary.

I have also been tempted to use lash extensions but knew this would not be a good long term solution for me since it takes a long time to apply and the maintenance of having to get them done every 6 weeks was just not realistic for me.

I joined a virtual make up party a few weeks ago and ordered the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara that is suppose to the end all of mascara.  I was a bit hesitant and ordered one to give it a try.  Let me tell you that after the first use, I was hooked.  I was so in love with it that I actually join Younique to sell it.  I have never joined this type of direct sales company or considered it so I am still kind of shocked that I actually did it.  I can't say enough about how much I love this and wanted to share some pictures of my eyes (sorry they are kind of up close and scary) that really shows how awesome it is.

I am no make up artist and I am a mature woman with short lashes so please don't mind if the make up skills are not the best.

1. My natural lashes
2. My eyes with my normal mascara
3. Left eye with normal mascara and right with 1 coat of Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara
4. Left eye with normal mascara and right with 2 coats of Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara

I would never leave the house like this but you can see what a big difference this mascara makes!

If you are interested in purchasing the mascara, you can buy it directly from here.  Youniuqe currently ships to U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K. and New Zealand.  The Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara is $29 USD plus tax and shipping.  I promise you it's worth every penny.

There's more to the story about the blanket scarf, I accidentally ordered 2 of the scarves!  So it's your lucky day! I am giving away a blanket scarf to keep you warm out in the cold and a set of the Moodstruck 3D Lash Mascara to make you a believer too!

This giveaway is open to U.S. and Canada.

Comfy but Not Flattering

There are many blogs that feature gorgeous photos of the bloggers wearing everything that looks like they are tailored made for them and they are always in the most exotic locations.  As you already know, I don't have pretty backdrops unless you consider an alley exotic.

My outfits are not always perfect and that's is okay with me because life is not about perfection.  If my life was perfect than it would be pretty boring.  So that brings me to today's outfit.  I ordered this buffalo check sweater from Forever 21 and love it.  But with the loose fit and the larger check, it does not flatter me and adds a lot of bulk.  So here I am, not the most figure flattering outfit with a boring background.  I have to say, this sweater is so comfy that I did not really care that it didn't look that good on me.

With Thanksgiving on Thursday, it's a gentle reminder that I am very blessed with my wonderful family & friends.  I have my health,  great job and so much more to be thankful and to be worrying about if a sweater looks good on me or not.

I will be taking the rest of the week off from blogging to enjoy this time with family & friends.

Happy Thanksgiving for those who celebrate!

Classic with a Twist

I have always believed that you can express yourself through clothing even in the most conservative environment.  I work in an industry that's ultra conservative (banking) though because I live in Southern California, the dress code is a bit more relaxed than wearing a black suit everyday.  This outfit is a good example of how I still have some fun with dressing though it is a pretty conservative outfit.

I start with some classic elements in this outfit:
1. Red and leopard
2. Simple blazer
3. Pencil Skirt
4. Black Heels
5. Timeless watch

My twist to the classics:

1. A leopard sweater that is sheer with a cami underneath
2. Blazer that has a subtle polka dot print which adds to pattern mixing with the sweater
3. Pencil skirt in faux leather in a not too short length
4. Black Heels with gold zippers in the heel
5. A timeless watch with an unexpected pink stripe

And viola!  I have an outfit that's office ready.

Speaking of classic, how stunning is this Daniel Wellington Classic Sheffield Lady Watch!  I used to wear watches all the time and got away with wearing them since having a cellphone.  I guess it's been a long time ago. Daniel Wellington graciously gifted this to me and it reminded me what a great accessory a watch can be to an outfit.  Watches make a perfect gift for yourself or that special someone.  From now until December 31st, you get 15% of your purchase at Daniel Wellington using the discount code: holiday_midlifehappiness.

If you wear a watch, do you have several and accessorize it to your outfit?

Here's a look back at how I wore my red polka dot blazer in the summer.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Plaid Tube Skirt

To end my week of plaid, I am wearing my Topshop plaid skirt that I bought early this year.  I don't remember owning a tube skirt since probably the 80s.  The fit is very snug which is fine if I layer it over loose top like I did here.  My only complain about the tube skirt is I can't walk!! I am forced to take super small steps and feels like I am taking forever to get anywhere.

And let's talk about this vest, I saw it at Banana Republic and fell in love with how soft it is.  This piece really feels very high end and I was happy to be able to snag it during the 50% off sale and used some rewards too.  Those type of shopping makes me feel like a smart shopper.

I am such a sucker when it comes to advertisements, a percent off, loyalty programs that rewards you with dollars, special sales days and I am in.  I try not too fall into these traps but it is tough.  I remember I read somewhere that as consumers we feel like are getting a great deal when there's a promo like buy one get one 50% or a free gift with purchase.

Which type of sales always get you?

Special Projects

Plaid seems like a pretty busy pattern but it seems to work pretty well paired with stripes.  I am no genius, I have been seeing a lot of this pairing on Instagram so I figure I would give it a try.

I know a lot of people find fashion inspirations on Pintrest but I mainly use it for collecting recipes and exercise ideas.  I have been for years ripping out recipes and exercise programs from magazines. It drives my husband crazy since I am not very organized and there's stacks of pages everywhere.  I keep saying one day I will put in an organized binder that's indexed so I can find things easily.  Let's face it, when will I ever find time to do this?  I can't even keep my closet organized.

What special projects do you have that you've put off for a long time?

P.S.  Hope you be back on Thursday and link up to Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link up.

Plaid & Tan

Another week has gone by and it's less than 2 weeks from Thanksgiving.  The sales are coming fast and furious as stores want you to spend everything now.  I have never been a black Friday type of person, the idea of lining up outside to hope to grab a great deal just does not appeal to me.

One year, my mom and sister came to visit me for Thanksgiving and for Black Friday we drove out to  a very large outlet mall.  It was the worst experience of my life, I can't even remember how long it took to find a parking space that was miles from the shopping center.  This was way before internet shopping so we did do a bit of shopping.  Just the crowd and how unpleasant people become while shopping and standing in line has really turned me off to any big shopping days.

This year some stores are actually opening Thanksgiving to start the process even earlier.  I will say no thank you and will be in the comfort of my home spending time with family.

Do you part take in Black Friday and what was your best deal scored?

BTW, it looks like will be plaid week here on the blog.  I have been adding more plaid to my closet lately.  Plaid is typically worn in the fall/winter which I have no idea why since it's should be dependent on the fabric.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Cozy Sweater

I have been having major writers block on what to write lately. I think it's due to the multi-tasking that I am always doing when I am writing blog posts.  Right now, I am watching the final episode of The Walking Dead's Season 3 and it is pretty intense.

With the limited time each day, I really have no choice but to multi-task.  I realize that I am probably taking much longer time to finish this post.  So in the interest of not wasting any more time, I will stop here and enjoy the rest of the episode.

Do you allot time each day dedicated to blogging?  How do you fit it into your day?

BTW, I did not fall asleep watching Big Hero 6.  In fact, when my son had to use the restroom -  I asked him if he could hold it for 1/2 hour.  And of course, we went to the restroom - who was I kidding asking a 6 year old that question.  I digress.....highly recommend this movie, it was much better than I expected.

No work and All Play

Today in America we celebrate Veterans day.  Thank you to all the brave and courages men & women that have served and serving our country. Without wonderful people like you, we would not be able to enjoy the freedom that we have.

I have the day off today and will have some fun time with my son.  We are planning a lunch date with daddy then it's a movie date to see Big Hero 6.

I am hoping I won't fall asleep in this movie.  The last movie I saw with my son (The Lego Movie), I was asleep within the first 30 minutes.  If you take your kids to movies, do you normally stay awake and enjoy the movie?

P.S.  Stop by on Thursday and link up to Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link up.
