About a month ago, my family and I were heading out to our local outdoor mall and there was a huge summer event. There was a long line of people waiting for something which I had no idea what it was for. I was thinking it was for free make over since it was all young ladies. It was a super hot day and maybe I am just old and crabby but there's nothing free worth waiting in the hot sun for. Because we all know when it's free, it's not really worth much right?
There must've been over 500 people in line and they all didn't mind the waiting. As I got closer to the front, I still could not figure out what they were waiting for because the booth had no line and you could just walk up and talk to different vendors for candles, make up, jewelry and all girly things imaginable.
I spotted an attendant and ask what the long line was for. She pointed to a girl posing and taking pictures with the girls in line. I thought well, she must be someone famous on TV that I am not aware of. I finally spotted a sign and the girl was a youtube personality! I know I am old because when did society place so much value on a youtube personality? I had to watch one of her videos to see what she was all about. Cute girl with a bubbly personality and she shows off her shopping haul. She has over million followers.
I am just at a loss at why showing off your clothes that you may have purchased or gifted can become a career and all these young girls want to be like her. I guess it's the same as why Kim Kardashian has so many followers on Instagram and is always on TMZ or some other show. It makes me wonder if I am contributing to the cycle of placing value on superficial things by writing this blog.
Not that this thought will stop me from writing on this blog but it just got me thinking on how this impact how my son views the world and I need to be cautious of it.
Didn't mean to get all deep and philosophical on you. It's just been on mind.
So on a lighter note, here's 2 ways I've worn my polka dot cardigan. The brighter outfit is perfect for summer and paring with with the black pants feels a little bit more for fall.
