Arizona Getaway

This past weekend we took a few extra days off and drove out to Arizona for a mini getaway.  My son is playing baseball right now so we thought it would be fun to take him to see the Angels during spring training.

We stayed at the Arizona Grand Resort where it's a perfect place for anyone that loves a little swimming pool adventure.  There's a lazy river, wave pool and several water slides.  With temps in the upper 90s, my son was in heaven in the pool.

We also headed to the Grand Canyon which is even more majestic than any pictures I've seen.

This first outfit is what I wore for the road trip.  The drive time is about 6 hours from California to Arizona so my goal is to be as comfortable as I can on the road. I don't know what is more comfortable a maxi dress.

It was in the upper 90s the day of the baseball game.  I made sure my head was protected and I had a big tote to bring in water to stay hydrated.  Next time, I am bringing a small towel to sit on because the seats got too hot in the sun and it was burning my leg.

As we driving into the city of Grand Canyon, we were talking about how awesome it would be to see the Grand Canyon by air.  My son's birthday is coming up in about a week so we gave him the option of having a birthday party or the helicopter ride.  He was so excited, he of course wanted to ride in a helicopter.  It was such an amazing experience to see it from an aerial perspective.  The ride was only 30 minutes but worth every penny.

Just a funny comment about that yellow thing that my son is wearing.  It's the floatation device that we were all required to wear while on board.  So I was thinking, if the helicopter crashed, what are the odds that I would actually land in the rapids and not on the rocky canyon?  I am thinking the chances are pretty slim and that the floatation device is pretty useless.

I had purchased a selfie stick and and brought it with me on this trip.  If you don't have one, run out and buy one,  it so awesome for selfies and family pictures.  We had so much fun using the selfie stick and not needing to ask anyone for help.

Trellis Skirt

Do you have a piece in your closet that you struggle with?  For me it's this skirt.  I wanted this skirt because I love the print and of course I found it on sale.  The fit of skirt is not horrible but it's not one that I love.  I am big fan of pencil skirt but this skirt is not pencil but more a slight a-line.  The shorter length plus the a-line just does not fit me as well as I would like.

I know it's just a skirt but for some reason it stumps me.  I think I finally got it right with the first outfit below.  It's just weird that a slight change in the cut of the skirt gives me so much grief.

What item in your closet gets you in a styling stump?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Striped Heels

I talked about taking small steps with pattern mixing last week (here) with tonal print.  Printed heels is another way to incorporate pattern in a small dose.  I have 3 patterns here so it may intimidate some but if you took out the leopard belt, the 2 patterns are so far apart that it does not feel as overwhelming.  Plus a pair of shoes probably does not feel as print overdose as a shirt + skirt/pants.

My problem with pattern shoes is that I want every print that catches my eye.  Of course, I don't pull the trigger but it is tempting.

Do you own printed shoes?

Chambray Shirt

Chambray shirts always seems to be on a list of classic things to have in your closet.  I agree that a chambray shirt is classic but I don't seem to use my chambray shirt enough to justify it as a closet staple.  I think for me to have it as closet staple, it has to be multi functional (work and play).  I rarely wear chambray shirts to work because they just feel a bit too casual for my office.  My rule has always been that if I have to think twice about a piece of clothing than it's probably a no.

There probably are not too many pieces in my closet that I can use for work and the weekend so honestly, I don't know what would be on my list of closet staple.

What's on your list of closet staples?

See you Thursday for Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up!

Pink Stripe Skirt

How was your first weekend of Spring?  Weather was beautiful here in Southern California, I got to watch my son's baseball team get their first win this season (go Giants!).

It was a nice quiet weekend for us and some times you just need that.  Another thing we decided to do was purchase a new iPad.  We've had our iPad for several years (a 2nd generation) was about to die.  I don't really think that much has changed since our iPad that I can see but for a basic user like my son, it won't make a difference.

While looking at the Apple site, I checked out the apple watch that comes out on April 25th.  I don't know about you but I am not excited about the watch.  I just don't know why I would need a watch to read my email or track my fitness when I can probably do it better on my phone.  I know it's smaller but that has it's downside too for older people like me that can't read small print.  Plus, I am not sure I want to spend $350 or $12,000 for a gadget watch.  If I am going to spend that kind of money, I would prefer a Rolex, Cartier or any of the higher end brand names where the watch would hold it's value.

Will you be getting the Apple watch?

About the outfit, I love this stripe pink skirt for spring (or anytime of the year).  I love the different colors which makes it a bit different.  I was looking through my closet that other day and realized that I don't have any plain stripe skirt.  I am on a mission to get that remedy.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Polka Dot Pants

Are you comfortable with pattern mixing?  Since reading fashion blogs, I have branched out and have had a lot of fun with mixing patterns.  Before blogging, I stuck with 1 pattern and solid colors.  Little did I know that by pattern mixing, you really get a bigger stretch with your wardrobe.

If you want to try pattern mixing but not ready to jump into the deep end, I recommend getting something that has a pattern but it's tonal in coloring.  Take these pants,  you can barely see the polka dots (take a look at the last picture and I promise you there really are polka dots).  With such a subtle pattern, you can pretty much wear whatever you want with them.  Today, I am pairing it with a stripe beaded bib top from J Crew for an extremely subtle pattern mixing.

How do you feel about pattern mixing?

A throw back to all the way back to Jan 2015 on how I wore these polka dot pants (original post).  Again, due to the subtle polka dot pattern, it's easy to match it up with any pattern.  I paired these with a heart print top.

Blush

Lately, I have been on a blush kick.  It's such a soft and romantic color and so perfect for spring.  As I talked in this post, I was eyeing out 2 blush blazer.  I took advantage of a sale that WHBM had and decided to order the blazer.  As you can see, it's a keeper.

Pantone who makes paint colors have been promoting color of the year for some time.  The color this year is marsala which is a blend of burgundy with brown undertones.  I don't know about you but I do not shop based on the color of the year but just more on what's missing in my closet and what catches my eye.

Do you think you are influenced by these trend announcements?

I am swayed by marketing ploys and often will start liking a trend but if it doesn't fit my body type or skin color, I will pass no matter what.

P.S.  Hope you will be back on Thursday and join Throw Back Thursday Fashion link up.

Dazed & Confused

I have a funny story to share, I have been doing green outfits all last week that I honestly thought that St. Patrick's Day had passed even though we have not celebrated.  So when I learned that it was today, I had to scramble and change my clothes and put this outfit together. Of course, I was going crazy looking for something green in my closet and still be ready on time.  I have been getting my outfit ready the night before for so long that when I am off schedule, it really messes me up.

I think we associate a kelly green for St. Patrick's but I think wearing any shade of green will save you from being pinched.  So be a little unconventional and wear a different shade.  This skirt looks teal in the photos but it's more a hunter green.

Have a great day!

Paisley Cardigan

Happy Monday!  I can't believe it is the middle of March, time flies when you are having fun.  I wanted to share with you 2 more looks in preparation of St. Patrick's Day.  I've had this cardigan for sometime and it never made it to the blog.  The first outfit I wore recently and the 2nd one was what I actually wore on St Patrick's day last year.

If you are a blogger, do you only share outfits that are recent?  I do have a ton of outfits in drafts and depending on my mood, I may still use it.

Throw Back Thursday Link Up: Plaid Pants

If you are looking for a bold St. Patrick's Day outfit, look no further!  These pants are no stranger to the blog (as seen herehere, & here).  I seem to have paired them mainly with greys or darker colors which never brought out the green in them.  By pairing it with the green cardigan, the green in the pants really stood out.  One of my coworkers said to me that I am a week too early for St. Patrick's Day.

Not too many people at the office knows that I have a blog and I just told her I was getting all my green in for the big day.  Why am I embarrassed to let people know that I have a fashion blog?   Maybe a bit of fear of what people think about what I wear or maybe it feels a bit shallow to talk about clothes?

I am not really sure why I don't let my co-workers know but most likely to keep the 2 worlds separate.  I only have friends on Facebook that I am friends with in real life or people that I consider a friend and do not have too many of my coworkers as friends.  Since I not only talk about clothes here and sometimes share a little bit about me, I am not sure I want to share it coworkers I don't consider friends.  Isn't that a bit of irony for you that I share more with all of you out in the blog land that some of m coworkers!

I think there's a special bond we form with other bloggers about the process of blogging that non bloggers just don't understand.

Do keep your blog private to close friends & family only?
