Throw Back Thursday: Denim Jacket

This past weekend, we attended a pool party for my son's friend.  In the past, either my husband or I would be in the pool at all times with my son since we were still not comfortable with his swimming skills.  I am excited that all the swimming lessons have paid off and he swims like a fish and we don't need to worry about him.

Knowing that I didn't have to swim, I elected not to go in because a swimming pool with a bunch of kids screaming just did not sound that relaxing to me.  I prefer to lounge pool side.  I was not sure of the weather because it was windy and rainy the day before.  I wore a midi dress and grabbed my denim jacket on the way out in case it got cold.  Luckily, the day was beautiful and the jacket was not needed at all.  I am glad I did bring my wide brim hat to protect my face from the sun.

A denim jacket is a perfect for Southern California to be worn almost year round and it seems to go with everything.  It seems denim jackets come and go like other trends.  For me, it just feels so timeless that it doesn't feel like a trendy piece at all.

Do you own a denim jacket?

I apologize for the shaded picture, I guess my hat did the trick of shading my face.

Wish List Wednesday: Mother's Day Gift Ideas

I have always been a procrastinator and that applies to shopping for gifts. You will find me a the store, an hour before a party trying to find that special gift for a friend.  And if I have to ship anything, it's inevitable that it's always late.

If you are like me, Shopbop offers free 3-day shipping and free returns within U.S. and ships internationally as well.  Here are some gift ideas for Mother's Day.

The Carry Everything Mom
For the mom that's on the go, a carry all would be a nice gift.  I am always carrying a ton of snacks, toys, change of clothes, iPad and everything else so a nice carry all bag would be a great gift for a mom on the go.  This bag is reversible too so it's 2 for the money!

A big tote like this is also perfect for a mom that shops at the farmers market and used to carry all the purchases.

Shop this Zac Posen Eartha Everyday Reverse Shopper and similar totes here.

The Mom that Loves Scarves
If your mom wears scarves, what better way to say I love you than a scarf that says it.  I love the pretty colors of this scarf which is so perfect for spring and summer.

Shop the Kate Spade collection of scarves here

Fitness Mom

With the popularity of pedometers,  I see a lot of moms out there that are wearing Fitbits to track their steps, sleep pattern and all other good stuff to make us live a healthier lifestyle.  I am loving the Tory Burch line of jewelry that conceals the Fitbit and makes it look like part of the outfit.

Shop the collection of Tory Burch's Fitbit accessories here

Mom on the Go

For moms that's more a grab and go type of person, a smartphone wallet is a great option to hold phone, credit cards and cash.  This will also fit nicely in the shopping tote and one place that holds it all.  And if mama wants to go on a date, a smart phone wallet is pretty enough to use as a wristlet purse too.

Shop this Marc by Marc Jacbos smart and other similar smartphone wallet here.

What are some ideas you have for Mother's day gift ideas besides candy and chocolates?

Porcelain Blue

I got an email the other day from someone wanting to buy this skirt.  I had only wore it one time so I was not ready to give it up yet.  I guess this is pretty common because I was reading Alissa of The Adored Life and she had a similar experience.

If you are a blogger, have you received similar emails?

On an related but unrelated note, I was online browsing on Anthropologie's website and the matching top to this skirt popped up in the sale section.  I got this skirt last year so I was surprised to see it and thought maybe it's meant to be so I ordered it.  I guess it really wasn't meant to be since I got a notice a few days later that it was no longer available.

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was filled fun baseball and birthday parties. We actually experienced some light rain on Saturday and for me rain = perfect day for napping.  To be honest with you, I love napping and would do it daily if I could.  It drives my husband nuts that I would waste the day sleeping.

Are you a napper?

If I was to be nap at work, I would want to be in my pajamas which both is not feasible.  I have been so on the fenced about joggers because I wasn't so sure I could pull them off at the office.  I spotted a pair at J Crew on clearance and gave them a try and LOVED them.  The ones that I ended up is not knit so I think I felt more comfortable wearing them to work.  I am not even sure these are considered joggers but it has an elastic waist and cuff and I am thinking that would make them joggers.

Do you own joggers and what are your thoughts on them?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Navy Blazer

A few weeks ago, I talked about closet staples in a wardrobe (post here).  I was really stumped that I actually had things in my closet that would be consider a classic staple.  That is of course, I forgot about my blazers.

I own a big collection of blazers because they always make me feel so polished and professional for work.  I have fun printed ones from plaid to polka dots and of course colors of the rainbow and then some.  I would have to say of all the blazers I own, the one most used would be this navy J Crew School Boy Blazer.

Navy is a great natural color that can be paired with pretty much any color and it does not feel as harsh as black.  When in doubt, I always grab this blazer.  I wore this for a presentation the other day work.  On days that I have presentations, I try to keep my outfit a little more toned down.  I love the bold stripe and the angle of this skirt makes it a bit unique but still office appropriate.

Are you a fan of blazers?

Wish List Wednesday - Wedding Guest

I am starting a new series called wish list Wednesday.  This first post is dedicated to ideas for a dress  as a wedding guest.  One of the things I missed about being young is getting invited to a ton of weddings.  I remember in my 20s and 30s, it seems like I was invited to a wedding at least once a month.  Now that I am older, I don't get a chance to go too many weddings.  So I am excited that one of my dearest friends is getting married soon.

I think that last wedding I attended was probably 5 years ago or more.  With a wedding to attend soon, I need to start brainstorming what to wear.  The wedding will be held on a beach front property in Hawaii.  I was thinking, I have been to dozens of wedding in Hawaii and this is the first one that I will be attending that will be on the beach.  Isn't that funny?

Which one would you recommend?

What to Wear to Play Miniature Golf

My son celebrated his 7th birthday a few weeks ago.  He decided he did not want a birthday party but we still wanted to do something on his actual birthday since it landed on a Friday.  He selected miniature golf and dinner at his favorite restaurant.

Now what do you wear to such an event?  When I googled golf pants, there were some really loud printed pants so I though my new stripe pants would be perfect.  Tiger Woods has his signature red  shirt that he wears on Sunday, I am gong to start wearing my bright orange paillette tee every time I go miniature golf.

Real golfers wear shoes with cleats and an experienced miniature golfer like me will wear some sensible wedges for extra height to gauge the distance from tee off spot to the hole.

To finish the look, I caddied my own goodies with a bucket purse.

So you would think that by wearing the perfect miniature golf outfit, I should beat  a 7 year old right?  I was so wrong!  He got 9 birdies out of the 18 rounds we played. I guess it has more to do with skills than a cute outfit?

I am thinking that a lot of my feed today will be filled with bloggers sharing their loot for the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collaboration.  I will be honest, I have been sucked into many times with these collaborations and end up with some things that I really love (like my Prabal Gurung lace up heels) and things that I hardly wear.  I think I was buying it because it was the "It" item.

I think this collaboration is spot on with colors and style of Lilly Pulitzer and there are some really cute pieces.  But I thought to myself, do I really want to go to the store and stand in line before the store opens or stay up super late to hopefully buy something?

I don't own any items from this brand and never even look at the items on a lot of the flash sale websites.  The price point for the actual Lilly Pulitzer items are not crazy out of reach like Altuzarra or Prabal Gurung which I know I will never own.  I am not trying to sound like I can afford to buy things at full price but from a price point perspective, I could probably find similar pieces on clearance maybe just a bit more priced than Target's price point.  With these thoughts, I decided to skip it.  If there are items left over if I go to the store, than I will buy it - other wise, I am passing.

Did you pick up anything from this collaboration?

Today, I am so excited to share with you about Rocksbox.  For me, they are the jewelry site of Netflix. For $19 a month, you start on their website a short survey and select items on your wishlist.  Your personal stylist will hand pick and send you 3 name brand items (approximate value of $200) for you to enjoy.  The items are yours to wear until you decide what to purchase or return.  You can return pieces anytime for new items.  If you love what you received, you have the options to purchase for keep at a discount.

For my first box, I received:
1. Gorjana Greer V-Neck Necklace at a discounted price of $52
2. CC Skye Punk Heiress Ring at a discounted price of $78
3. Perry Street Lily Earrings at a discounted price of $34

Since I wear more statement necklaces lately, I have not worn too many big earrings.  I tend to stay away from big earrings in general because they are typically too heavy.  Surprisingly, these are so comfortable.

The necklace & rings have been on me non-stop - I am in love them!

If you would like to try Rocksbox, they are offering a one month free subscription to try it.  Use code:  happinessatmidlifexoxo at check out.  Give it a try, what have you got to lose?

Rocksbox is offering me a 3 month subscription to try out their services.  So far I have been impressed with the easy and speed of delivery.  It comes in great packaging and the pieces are of good quality.

Friday Fringe

With the start of the music festival season, this has me reminiscing about the time that I actually went to a music festival.  The year was 1999 and I was still in my 20s.  Back then, I listened to music that was much less kid friendly and loved Alternative music.  I still love alternative music but with little ears now, it's a lot different with my choice of radio stations.  I remember how excited that I had won tickets from a local radio station.  They sold out so quickly and never thought I would have a chance to go.

I honestly don't remember much about the festival other than it was super hot in the day and cold at night.  I did not care about fashion back then and have no clue what I wore.  I did get a chance to see Rage Against the Machine and Tool who were great performers and got the crowd energized.

Seeing all the bloggers sharing their music festival fashion style, I have been wanting to dress a bit of boho even though it's not really my style   One things I have been wanting to try is something with fringe.  Fringe kimono, sandals, bags are typically seen at music festivals so here are some of my ideas to incorporate fringe in my life.

Fringe Purse

I think a good way to try fringe would be would an accessory like a purse.  I like that this one can be a clutch or a cute purse. This color is neutral which is perfect for the boho look.

Shop this Sam Edelman Clover Fringe Clutch and similar fringe clutches here

Fringe Jewelry

If I was going to the music festival, I would probably be in a basic white tee.  I add some fun with a necklace like this which still offers the fringe look.

Shop this Jules Smith Imitation Pearl & Chain necklace and other options here.

Fringe Shoes

These are not shoes I would wear to a music festival but they are just so pretty! Another great way to incorporate some fringe on a night out.  These would be perfect with a pair of distressed jeans with a basic white top.  These shoes make a great statement entrance.

Shop the Schutz Carmen Fringe Sandals & others here.

Fringe Jacket/Vest

If this doesn't scream music festival ready, I don't know what would.  At Coachella, the temps are pretty high in the day and drops down 20-30 degrees at night.  Very important to dress in layers.  I love this outfit that the model is wearing this vest.

Shop this One by Lamarque fringe vest and more here

Fringe Skirt

I have been wanting a fringe skirt forever, I think it would be so fun to wear one for a night of dancing.  I love seeing the movement for the fringe.  This is probably too dressy for a music festival but a date night or girls night out would be a perfect occasion to wear such a fun skirt.

Shop for this One by Lamarque Frida Fringe Skirt and similar here

This rounds up my picks for all things fringe.  Are you a fan of fringe? Are you attending any music festivals this year?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Blush Blazer

This week's Throw Back Thursday item is my blush blazer. Technically, it's not old at all (it's about a month old) but I wanted to wear it again and share it on the blog.  I wore it with similar colors as last time of black and white and added the touch of color with the necklace and it felt so much more spring like.

What do you think of these stripe pants?  Too crazy for you?  I thought it were so cute but at the same time a bit frightening to have all these stripes across the biggest part of my body!  I tried them on and fell in love.  I just got them about a week ago and have already wore them twice.

Business of Blogging with Pinterest

This post is for fellow bloggers out there.  I wanted to get some feedback on the business of blogging and Pinterest. I have read from several bloggers how Pinterest has increase traffic to their blog.  I remember reading this post from Audrey of Putting me Together that a big portion of traffic to her site is directed from Pinterest.

That got me thinking, what is the best use of my time when it comes to blogging?  Granted I know not everyone blogs to get rich and it's a great hobby and an awesome way to connect with people that have the same passion as you.

For me, my blog is hobby first and earning some money is more a fringe benefit.  However, with only 24 hours a day that I need to work, take care of my family and myself that leaves me with little time left.  I do make some money when you click on the links for things I link up to (not enough to live off on, just enough to buy lunch once a month).  I don't get a ton of companies reaching out to me to pay me to evaluate their goodies or receive free goodies. I have accepted that but I don't want to waste my time going in circles either.  I probably spend way too much time online each night reading a lot of blogs and leaving comments.

I just recently learned that there is now Pinterest for business and started creating boards and pins.  I am probably doing the most inefficient way to repin all my outfits by each post onto my new account.   I started with most recent and I am only in mid March.  I probably won't go through all my posts since that's about 3 years worth of posts.  You can follow me here.  There's not a whole lot there yet because it's a pain in the you know what to add pins.   Do you know a quick way to transfer pins from one account to another?

As a blogger, do you feel that Pinterest have help grow your blog?  If you do, I would love to hear what type of pins drives the the most traffic.  What social media site do you find is the most beneficial to you to increase blog traffic?

In my desire to grow the blog traffic, here's 3 ways that I've worn this floral skirt for the office that I will pinning.
