Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Black and White Midi

I have been working a lot more hours than I am used to (not that I am complaining) and it's starting to take a toll on my mental state of mind (as well as physical).  My territory has substantially increased which means I spend a lot of time on the road.  This unfortunately means more I am eating so much more drive thru then I ever wanted.

When I am not on the road, I do pack a healthy lunch to eat at my desk.  I don't recommend driving and eating but sometimes, that's all the time I have.  For those the drive a lot for work, what ideas do you have for healthy lunches that I can eat while driving?

This post has nothing to do with my pretty skirt but I need some ideas from my friends out there.  I am tired of yo-yo eating.

Moving along to this outfit, I love how this turned to look like the top and skirt looks like a dress.  I had someone compliment me on the outfit and said how much she loved my dress.  When I told her it was a top/skirt combo, she realized that she had the same top.  I thought it was pretty funny that this looked so much like a dress that she didn't even recognize it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. I was interviewed by Deborah of Fabulous After 40, stop by and check it out if you want to learn a little more about me.

Pattern Mixing

Pattern mixing was a foreign concept to me until I started reading fashion blogs.  You ladies out there have shown me that pattern mixing can be fun and a great way to stretch your wardrobe.  I started dipping my toes by starting in small doses with an outfit that has 2 colors (like black and white) and stripes and polka dots (as seen here and here).

I have since moved on a some bolder combinations but I think they are still pretty doable for most.  I don't really have any fast rules when it comes to pattern mixing but it's easiest when you find a common color in both pieces.  I never thought gingham and leopard would look good together but I really love how this outfit came together.  I say just try it on and take a picture and see how you like it.

Today, I am sharing 2 print mixing outfits that I follow the similar formula that I stated.  The first outfit the pattern mixing is very subtle.  The blazer has a polka dot print that you can barely see and I feel a print like this makes it almost fool proof on pattern mixing.

The 2nd outfit I stuck to the black and white and mixed polka dot and floral.  Again, since the blazer has a subtle print - it's just a bonus pattern.

Since there are tons of posts that give guidance to pattern mixing, I thought I would share one written by Liz of Downtown Demure.  She breaks it down so easily than I can ever explain.  I love Liz's style and have copied her look here.  If you have not met Liz, please stop by and check out her amazing outfits.  Thank you Liz for featuring me in post and your kind words!

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Neutral Dots

As much as I love colors, some times it feels good to just keep it simple in neutral colors.  I always love wearing black, white and brown together and how it feels so right.

The heels I am wearing today were purchased last year and it looks like Ann Taylor brought it back again.  I highly recommend these highs if you are looking for a good pair of work heels.  Very classic look with the quilted pattern and the block heels and padded sole makes it good for wearing all day long.

It's too funny that on my TBT photo, I am wearing the same color scheme.  You can say I am:
1. Predictable
2. Consistent
3. Stuck in a rut

It could be all of the above, I am not sure.  Do you end up styling a piece of clotting the same each time?

Crop Leopard Sweater for Work

I own 2 crop tops in my closet, a stripe one that I purchased recently (post here) and this leopard sweater.  I will never wear a crop top with an exposed mid section no matter what I read that it's actually very flattering even for non 6 pack stomach people. You can read this article here on some tips on how to wear a crop top.

For me, it's not because of my age or my size that makes me not want to expose any skin but rather just my personal comfort level.  I have never been one to wear short skirts or cleavage bearing tops, it's just not my personality.  But that does not stop me from wanting a crop top.  I think they are great for layering with a long loose top under it or wearing it with a high waisted skirt as I did in these two outfits.

I have worn this top in all season and it's become a versatile piece in my closet.  How do you feel about crop tops?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Polka Dot Flare Dress

I always appreciate a dress that's simple in cut (sheath or fit and flare) and a simple print.  They give me so many styling options or keep it super simple and you are good to go.  This dress I am wearing from Target is one of those dresses.  I love a fit and flare cut since it's pretty flattering for most women and the classic black and white makes it virtually a blank canvas.

I've styled it two ways today.  Outfit #1 to me is my modernized pink lady outfit.  And outfit #2 is pairing it leopard - the new neutral.

Orange Polka Dot Cardigan X 2

About a month ago, my family and I were heading out to our local outdoor mall and there was a huge summer event.  There was a long line of people waiting for something which I had no idea what it was for.  I was thinking it was for free make over since it was all young ladies.  It was a super hot day and maybe I am just old and crabby but there's nothing free worth waiting in the hot sun for.  Because we all know when it's free, it's not really worth much right?

There must've been over 500 people in line and they all didn't mind the waiting.  As I got closer to the front, I still could not figure out what they were waiting for because the booth had no line and you could just walk up and talk to different vendors for candles, make up, jewelry and all girly things imaginable.

I spotted an attendant and ask what the long line was for.  She pointed to a girl posing and taking pictures with the girls in line.  I thought well, she must be someone famous on TV that I am not aware of.  I finally spotted a sign and the girl was a youtube personality!  I know I am old because when did society place so much value on a youtube personality?  I had to watch one of her videos to see what she was all about.  Cute girl with a bubbly personality and she shows off her shopping haul.  She has over  million followers.

I am just at a loss at why showing off your clothes that you may have purchased or gifted can become a career and all these young girls want to be like her.  I guess it's the same as why Kim Kardashian has so many followers on Instagram and is always on TMZ or some other show.  It makes me wonder if I am contributing to the cycle of placing value on superficial things by writing this blog.

Not that this thought will stop me from writing on this blog but it just got me thinking on how this impact how my son views the world and I need to be cautious of it.

Didn't mean to get all deep and philosophical on you.  It's just been on mind.

So on a lighter note, here's 2 ways I've worn my polka dot cardigan.  The brighter outfit is perfect for summer and paring with with the black pants feels a little bit more for fall.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: My First Maxi Skirt

I have a mind that remembers that most mundane things that are totally useless and forget things that are important.  I have known my husband now for 16 years and I still get his birthday mixed up.  To my defense, it's a mix up of one day so it really isn't that bad. On the other hand, I am really good at remembering people's faces and conversations that we've had.

I remember the conversation I had with the sales person at Banana Republic when I bought my first maxi skirt.  It went something like this...

Me: Do you have a matching top to this skirt?
Salesperson: No
Me: Do you have a brown top to go with it?
Salesperson: No
Me: What can I wear with this skirt?
Saleperson goes and pulls pink top and says you don't need to match the skirt and pink with be a good contrast.

I remember thinking, why would I wear this with pink?  There's no pink in the skirt.  I bought the skirt anyways because I just loved the pattern and figured I could wear it with white.  This skirt is at least 4 years old and I am sure back then I would not have worn it with a windowpane top with it.  I am now wiser with fashion and I am bolder with my color choices and it gives me more option to wear this skirt.

I can't consider myself having any special talent (like singing or dancing) so I will say my talent is remembering useless conversation.  What's your special talent?
