Bold & Muted and a Recap of our Yosemite

Today's post is like a 2 in 1.  One for the outfit, and the second half about our trip to Yosemite.

First the dress.  I love the a bold print like a large floral print.  If a print is bold and it has very vibrant colors, it could be intimidating to wear.  I personally would wear a large color print but this dress with the muted colors really caught my eye.  I am sure this dress will be on heavy rotation this spring/summer.

I don't want to neglect these shoes either!  Lace up shoes are so trendy right now and I keep telling myself not to buy too many.  These lace up heels are incredibly comfortable and I am so tempted to buy another pair.

When I was younger, I never imagined being a mom and remember how I prefer to see babies from afar.  To this day, I still have zero need to hold a baby in my arms.  We celebrated my son's 8th birthday yesterday and now I can't imagine a life without him.  He has brought my husband and I so much joy and taught us so much about ourselves.

As a mom, one of the things I love is sharing experiences with him.  We went to Yosemite for our spring break which I had shared some photos with you below.

Let me start by saying that I did not grow up camping or spending much time outdoors.  So when my husband wanted to go to Yosemite for spring break, my only condition was no camping.  Luckily, there are 2 options besides camping in the park.  There's Yosemite Valley Lodge and the Majestic Yosemite Hotel.  The rates are not cheap at either of these places but you are right in the valley which makes it very convenient.  As much I would have love to stay at Majestic Hotel (built in 1920s), it was a bit over our budget ($500+) a night.

I didn't take too many photos of the hotel since a lot of it is under renovations.  I think this is the largest fire place I have ever seen in the common area.

The one word to describe Yosemite is majestic.  It truly is a wonderful place.  We got into the valley after dark so we did not get to see park when you enter the valley.  It is such a great experience.  You drive through a 1 mile tunnel and and the end of the tunnel you are rewarded with this view.  It gives you a great overview of how beautiful the park is.

We finally had some snowfall this winter season so the waterfalls were in full force.  The park was full of people because of spring break but you never overcrowded (except the 45 minute wait for dinner).

This the view of Yosemite Falls while we were strolling through one of the many meadows.

My son has never really gone hiking before so we were not too sure how he would do.  I have to say that most of the hikes with views are pretty difficult.  We ended up hiking Vernal Falls and Columbia Rock.  Both of these are about 3 miles round trip and the uphill was strenuous but the views make it so worth it.  My son did so well on these hikes and really out hiked my husband and I.

Below is one the views while hiking up to Columbia Rock.

I am deathly afraid of height and at this rock, there's a rail that you can hold onto and take photos see here.  My husband and son went to the rail easily while I watched in a panic.  I was so afraid that one of them would slip and fall thousands of feet below and turn it to the worst day of my life.  They wanted to do a family photo with the half dome in the background.  I screamed and had a death gripped on the rail and could not even turn around to look down.  But I was a sport and took our family picture and I do not look happy in them at all.

I did take this picture from a safe distance away from the rail of this view of Half Dome.

This the view of Bridalveil Fall.  This requires no hiking and is just short walk from the parking lot.

As for what I wore on this trip, it was purely for hiking and not for style.  I wore my workout clothes for the trip.  Vacations are for downtime and being in such a pretty place is no time to think about if my outfit is cute or not.

My son wanted a walking stick for his hikes.  He thought he found the perfect stick.

We had such a great time on our vacation with limited wifi and cell phone reception, we really were disconnected and focused on family time.  My son is already asking for our next trip back to Yosemite.

We are hoping to visit another national park next year.  Where do you recommend?
