Tinkerbell 1/2 Marathon

I was never an athletic person growing up and even now I don't consider myself very athletic.  Back in 2003, I wanted to run a marathon and joined a local running group through the city that helped trained for the LA Marathon.

I have made some great friends through this running group and 13 years later, we still run together.  I have never been fast nor have I experienced the runner high.  So why do I keep running? For the friendship.  When my friends are I run together, we chat and have a good time and next thing you know you are done with a 6 mile run.

I live only about 15 minutes away from Disneyland so my friends and I enjoy running the Tinkerbell race.  This is the 5th year of the race and I do hope to continue to run it as long as I can.

You can read about my past experiences here , here and here.

These pictures are post run and I don't wear make up while I am running so sorry for the scary pictures.  I dressed up as Alice in Wonderland this year and made my costume which I am not sure I like much.  I may go back to being Tinkerbell or Minnie Mouse. This running shirt just showed too many of my lumps.

As the 5th anniversary they had a nice banner of all the individuals that participated all run.  I found my name and of course had to take a picture with it.

The race started at 5:30 am and you run through the parks for the first 3 miles and the rest of the miles are throughout the city of Anaheim.  I was a bit disappointed with the smaller amount of characters that you can take pictures with thought out Disneyland and floats on display like they had in previous years.

To prepare for the race, you would think I ran a lot but I only went running once a week.  I continued to Crossfit 4-5x/week and ran on the weekend.  My longest run was 10 miles.  Each week, my runs were horrible.  My endurance was awful and I was always lagging behind my friends and feeling out of breath.  Some days my legs felt like lead and I had to walk.

With that said, I did not have high expectations on time on this race.  My goal was just to be able to cross the finish line on my own.

Here's my official race results:
1,427 out of 11,406 female runners
238 out of my age division
5k split: 35:43
10k split: 1:07
15k split: 1:39
13.1 miles: 2.18
Avg Pace: 10:34 / mile

Looking back at my previous post, this is the fastest I've ran the Tinkerbell.  That is too funny since I had zero expectations.

A close up of the pretty medal.  I always love how pretty the medals are.  Sadly my medals are not displayed and just sits in a drawer.  I have been wanting to buy one of these running display but just can't decide where I want to hang it.
