A Day at the Huntington Library

In Southern California, there are lots of sights to see and enjoy.  One of the places that I love to visit is the Huntington Library located in San Marino, CA.  It is an hour drive from where I live without traffic which in Los Angeles is as rare as rain.  So this means, that I don't get to out there too often.

When you think of library, you think of a building with books.  This is beyond rare collection of books. The grounds is 600 acres that have beautiful gardens, a museum and a library that houses rare collection of books.  One of the rare books that they have is the Gutenberg Bible from 1455.

You can spend hours and hours roaming through the beautiful grounds.  My girlfriends and I planned a a nice day out with tea at the library.

You don't really have to dress up for tea there but I still wanted to wear something feminine.  Since I knew there was going to be a lot of walking, I made sure I wore some comfy shoes.  I decided on a floral top and a lace skirt for the occasion.  It turned out to be a beautiful day and a light denim jacket was all I need to spend the day at the library.

If you are ever visiting Los Angeles, I highly recommend that you visit the Huntington Library.

I have never been to Japan or Washington DC that's know for their cherry blossoms and I am hoping that this tree is a cherry blossom.  I just love how pretty it looks against the pond and water fall in the background.

I don't know anything about flowers and the rose garden was pretty barren but I did find some beautiful blooms.  I love the names of some of the roses they had.  Names like girls night out, Las Vegas were some that caught my eye.  I wonder how I get a rose named after me.

The view from the Chinese garden.

I am not much of a patient person but I appreciate the art of bonsai trees.  I know they take a long time to cultivate to grow as intended.  I love how this bonsai looks like a forest.

How peaceful is this zen garden.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Another Fur Vest

The last 3 weeks I have have been featuring vests so I thought why not and keep it on a roll.  Today, I am sharing with you my first faux fur vest purchased back in 2012.  When I bought this, I thought it was a fun trendy item and maybe I would get to wear it for a season or 2.  Fast forward to 2016 and it's still a closet staple.

I actually thought about donating this vest because the collar makes this a bit too warm for me.  I have been sort of looking for a replacement but have not found one that I like the fur as much as this one.  So this one will stay in my closet for now.

What fun purchase have you bought in the past that has become a closet staple?

The Color Formerly Known as Blush

For the first time, Pantone announced a blend for the color of the year Rose Quartz and Serenity.  I will be honest, every year when they announce the color of the year it really makes no sense to me.  Marsala, oxblood it's all burgundy to me.  This year's rose quart is what feels to me the color formerly know as blush or light pink.

Serenity is a very soft blue that does feel very serene. It reminds me of one of my favorite colors in my crayon box growing up, cornflower blue.

I don't own much in light blue shade but I do love wearing blush.  So here's 2 looks with the same leopard skirt and blush today.

Will you be adding these colors to your wardrobe?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Black Shearling Vest

This past weekend we went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  My son has been begging since the movie came out to see it.  I did not want to see it back when it opened because I am not a fan of waiting in line and looking for the best seat in the movie theater.  Plus, the movie was rated PG-13 and my son is a young 7 year old.  He really enjoyed so I am glad we took him.

I don't go to the movies much anymore since I prefer to watch them in the comforts of my home.  I remember I used to freeze in the theaters and always wanted to bring a blanket with me.  The last several times that I've been to the movie, the theater was so hot.

I do believe certain type of movies are meant to be seen on the big screen.  For everything else, I prefer to watch them at home.

Are you an avid movie theater goer?

As I mentioned last week here, the sweaters in my closet are all finally coming out to play.  I have a pretty good memory and can pretty much remember when I bought a piece of clothing.  I am also really good at remembering names and totally random things about people but don't ask me what I had for dinner last night...I probably can't tell you.

It always amazes how much our mind remembers things.  My son is almost 8 and the other day commented on how he used to love hard boil eggs and peeling them when he was younger.  He does not like them at all now but this was when he was about 2-3 years old.  Yet he struggles with his math memorization.  Why is that?

I digress, I was going through my closet looking for something to wear and found this large pint houndstooth sweater.  I have absolutely zero recollection of buying it or ever wearing it.  This thought scares me because that means my mind is going and not that my closet has too much clothes :0

What treasures have you found in your closet?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: White Sweater

We Californians are wimps when it comes to the weather and I could not be happier that winter has arrived!!  I know many of you will laugh that I am so layered and it was in the low 60s when I wore this outfit.  I did end up shedding my layers as the day went on.

We've not had winter like weather in so long that any cool temps are welcome.  We are finally getting the rain to help with our severe drought and I am so happy to see snow capped mountains again.

I am also able to wear my sweaters again that has been stored away for the past several years.  It's feels great to shop in my closet and not in stores.

Stripe Sweater Dress

I do not work in marketing and have no idea how they come up with ideas to differentiate products/services.  Take one of my favorite store, Loft who is owned by Ann, Inc also owns Ann Taylor.  I get that two brand distinction with Ann Taylor geared more towards the older gals (like me) and Loft for younger generation.  The two brands may have different target markets but I find that a lot of times, the clothes are still very similar.

They introduced Lou & Grey a few years at the Loft store that is easygoing, textured rich styles for every according to their website.  When I see the line in store, it is more laid back vibe and muted colors with minimal print.  Most of the items are things that I can't wear to work or feel way too laid back for my taste.

I saw this dress online a few months back and thought it was such a great dress and ordered it.  I really did not need another stripe sweater dress but I just could not resist.  I am so pleased that I got it, it has a good strong stretchy knit feel and it has a slight texture to it.  I think this dress could actually come from either of their other brands too.

So my moral of the story is that don't focus on the brand name and you may be surprised at what pretty clothes you may find.
