Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Cloche Hat

I am so glad it's hat season..... Who am I kidding, it's hat season pretty much 360 days of the year in sunny southern California.

Sometimes I wished I could wear a hat everyday.  Why you ask....

1. I don't have to do anything to my hair.  That means I can leave it dirty or style it. It's not that I have fancy hair that requires a lot of styling but it's nice to just wake up and finger comb it and put a hat on it.

2. It's great to protect against the sun.  This is really important as my son's soccer season has started.  My scalp burns pretty easily so I need to always wear a hat so I don't burn.  Trust me, a burnt scalp does not feel good and does not look pretty as the dead skin flakes off.

3. Hats make a great accessory to an outfit.  You can create a sporty look with a baseball hat or feel glamorous wearing a pretty dress with a fascinator.  The options are endless.

4. It hides my gray hairs!!!

I wore this outfit this weekend.  My hair was a big mess and I was not in the mood to wash and style it since I going to get my hair done later in the day.  I mean why wash my hair 2x in a day right.

Are you a hat person?  Do you have a favorite type of hat to wear?

Metallic Accents

We had a heat wave last week in southern California where the weather was in the upper 80s (28 c) which is way too hot for spring.  When it is hot, I tend to favor dresses that's not form fitting.  I wore my trusty fit and flare dress and was ready to go.

The cardigan was much needed for the office and the metallic accents added for some fun.

I have been using mostly gold jewelry lately and was happy to switch back to silver which used to be my go to metallic color.

Do you tend to favor a metallic color?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Red Blazer

Do you have a signature style or piece that people always remember you by?

At the office, I am know for my selection of shoes.  When I go to see clients, they always comment about remembering my shoes from a previous meetings or the shoes I am wearing that day. I don't wear memorable shoes everyday but I do try to wear every pair of shoes as much as I can.

I have been wanting to wear these red plaid heels post holiday for a while now and just could not figure out how to wear it without feeling to festive.  I think I have achieved my mission by pairing it with black and white stripes and wore these heels.  I attended a conference when I wore this outfit and I probably had about dozen people comment on these shoes.

Another signature item for me are blazers.  I wear them almost daily at work and have closet full of them.  Something about wearing a red blazer, always makes me feel so empowered.

Here's a throw back to Jan 2015 on an outfit with some subtle mix of polka dots (original post here).

Stripe Blazer 3 Ways

April 15th used to be the dreaded tax date and my hubby and I always wait till the last day to file since we always end up paying taxes.  I am not sure why government has extended the tax deadline to the 18th.  For us, it just delayed the inevitable but I am glad we had the extra time.

For those that are getting a tax refund, I hope you will get to do something fun with some of the money.

Now onto this blazer, let's just say I am in love it.  I know, I am in love with everything that I buy but that's they way every piece you wear should feel right?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Lace Cut Out Crop Top

After Monday's long post, I am sort of out of words and will share with you some random thoughts in regards to shopping.

Random Thought #1
Why do I always spend hate paying for shipping when I order online?  I shared this photo on Instagram about my new purse purchase.  I have been wanting these heels for awhile and found them on clearance so I decided to buy them.  Free shipping was only $10 away and really didn't find anything that I wanted in that price range.  So instead of sucking up to pay the $7 shipping, I decided to spend a $130 for this purse

I have never heard of this brand of the purse and decided to take a chance on it and really liked it when I received it.

Random Thought #2
As I am writing this post, it's pretty late at night and I am watching nothing special on tv.  There are a plethora of infomercials running.  Who buys this stuff???  I can say I used to be obsessed with health and cooking products in my younger days. I have bought the George Forman Grill, a pull up bar, an ab roller and a few workout DVDs to name a few.  I still use a few of these things but have not bought much in the last 10 years.

I think the lure of infomercials have tarnished since you can buy everything online now.  I am sure I still need a L Pillow or 1 Second Slicer.

Random Thought #3
I don't know why I keep buying white pants.  No matter how cautious I am, they always get dirty.  I feel like I need to buy a new pair every year because they start to not have the crisp white look after so many washes.

What is your secret to keeping whites in tip top shape?

We are going to throw it way back to about a month ago when I wore this top to a baby shower.  Original post here.  I get so many compliments when I wear this top and I really love how unique this top is.  I had originally bought the matching skirt and ended up returning it since it's not a skirt that I could use for work and have much use for.

Bold & Muted and a Recap of our Yosemite

Today's post is like a 2 in 1.  One for the outfit, and the second half about our trip to Yosemite.

First the dress.  I love the a bold print like a large floral print.  If a print is bold and it has very vibrant colors, it could be intimidating to wear.  I personally would wear a large color print but this dress with the muted colors really caught my eye.  I am sure this dress will be on heavy rotation this spring/summer.

I don't want to neglect these shoes either!  Lace up shoes are so trendy right now and I keep telling myself not to buy too many.  These lace up heels are incredibly comfortable and I am so tempted to buy another pair.

When I was younger, I never imagined being a mom and remember how I prefer to see babies from afar.  To this day, I still have zero need to hold a baby in my arms.  We celebrated my son's 8th birthday yesterday and now I can't imagine a life without him.  He has brought my husband and I so much joy and taught us so much about ourselves.

As a mom, one of the things I love is sharing experiences with him.  We went to Yosemite for our spring break which I had shared some photos with you below.

Let me start by saying that I did not grow up camping or spending much time outdoors.  So when my husband wanted to go to Yosemite for spring break, my only condition was no camping.  Luckily, there are 2 options besides camping in the park.  There's Yosemite Valley Lodge and the Majestic Yosemite Hotel.  The rates are not cheap at either of these places but you are right in the valley which makes it very convenient.  As much I would have love to stay at Majestic Hotel (built in 1920s), it was a bit over our budget ($500+) a night.

I didn't take too many photos of the hotel since a lot of it is under renovations.  I think this is the largest fire place I have ever seen in the common area.

The one word to describe Yosemite is majestic.  It truly is a wonderful place.  We got into the valley after dark so we did not get to see park when you enter the valley.  It is such a great experience.  You drive through a 1 mile tunnel and and the end of the tunnel you are rewarded with this view.  It gives you a great overview of how beautiful the park is.

We finally had some snowfall this winter season so the waterfalls were in full force.  The park was full of people because of spring break but you never overcrowded (except the 45 minute wait for dinner).

This the view of Yosemite Falls while we were strolling through one of the many meadows.

My son has never really gone hiking before so we were not too sure how he would do.  I have to say that most of the hikes with views are pretty difficult.  We ended up hiking Vernal Falls and Columbia Rock.  Both of these are about 3 miles round trip and the uphill was strenuous but the views make it so worth it.  My son did so well on these hikes and really out hiked my husband and I.

Below is one the views while hiking up to Columbia Rock.

I am deathly afraid of height and at this rock, there's a rail that you can hold onto and take photos see here.  My husband and son went to the rail easily while I watched in a panic.  I was so afraid that one of them would slip and fall thousands of feet below and turn it to the worst day of my life.  They wanted to do a family photo with the half dome in the background.  I screamed and had a death gripped on the rail and could not even turn around to look down.  But I was a sport and took our family picture and I do not look happy in them at all.

I did take this picture from a safe distance away from the rail of this view of Half Dome.

This the view of Bridalveil Fall.  This requires no hiking and is just short walk from the parking lot.

As for what I wore on this trip, it was purely for hiking and not for style.  I wore my workout clothes for the trip.  Vacations are for downtime and being in such a pretty place is no time to think about if my outfit is cute or not.

My son wanted a walking stick for his hikes.  He thought he found the perfect stick.

We had such a great time on our vacation with limited wifi and cell phone reception, we really were disconnected and focused on family time.  My son is already asking for our next trip back to Yosemite.

We are hoping to visit another national park next year.  Where do you recommend?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Stripe Top

One of my closet staple is this stripe top (worn herehere & here).  I wear this top all the time since it goes with every color and pattern so it's perfect for layering.  I love that it's made of a heavier knit material and it is machine washable and does not fade.  Whenever I don't know what to wear, I find myself grabbing this top over and over.

I am wearing it today with a touch of boho with the fun sweater vest.

What item in your closet would you consider the most used?
