Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Patriotic Looks

I wore a similar version of this outfit for Memorial Day (see here) and figure if I like it in the shorts version, why not wear it wear it with gingham in pants.  I will probably end up wearing the shorts outfit again the for the 4th of July and thought this would be good option as a work outfit.

My husband disagreed.  When he took the pictures, he asked "are you seriously going to wear that wot work?".  I didn't see anything wrong with it other than it being more casual than what I normally wear.  He says these pants look like pajama pants.

So today's post is dedicated our this great country that I live in.  As we celebrate America's birthday with lots of fire works and great food with friends & family.

Happy Birthday America!

Bow Shoulder Top

Do you ever get dressed and think, wow this is a fab outfit!  I don't really go too crazy in my outfits that they really stand out much and it's okay by me since that's not my goal.

I am showing you two outfits that I wore with my bow shoulder gingham top.  I honestly love both of these outfits but one of them really was my WOW outfit.

Can you guess which one?

Outfit 1 has a lot of things I love, pattern mixing, polka dots and a little bit of bling.  BTW, the sandals in this outfit are the ones that crumbled on me that I talked about last Thursday.

Outfit #2 is simpler in colors and has subtle pattern mixing.  The sandals I am wearing in this outfit is what I replaced the crumbled sandals.

I wore these outfit without really planing on shoes or purse but I guess I am just a consistent kind of gal.

So which outfit do you think?

If you guessed outfit #2, you are correct.  I just felt so good in it and got some many compliments when I wore it.  The outfits are pretty similar but yet feels so different.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Poppy Red Pants

Do you have pieces of clothing in your closet that has past it's prime but you love it so much that you hold on to it?

I have a pair of sandals that I've had for about 10 years.  They really were nothing special just plain nude sandals like these.  I have been looking for a pair of replacement but never found the right one.  So I wore them the other day and was walking back from lunch and noticed something white on the bottom of my sandals.  I thought I stepped on a sticker so I lifted up my foot to peel it off.  So imagine my surprise when I saw that a big chunk of the sandal was missing!

At that point, I was trying to remember if I stepped on something really sticky and it pulled my sandals apart.  The sole was basically 1/2 gone.  I looked at the other foot and sure enough, it was in the same state.  They were in such poor shape that I could barely walk in them anymore.  They literally crumbled before my eyes.  Luckily, I have a ton of shoes in my office (story for another day) and tossed the old pair.

I didn't intentionally hold onto to the sandals but I got a lot of use out of them.  This is the first I can say that I've worn down my shoes.

Which leads me to these pants, I've had them a couple of years and love them.  I love the bold color and how comfy they are.  I noticed that when they came back from the cleaners that they look a little faded.

So now I am on the fence about keeping them.  What's your rule on keeping something you love even if it's past it's prime?

My Perfect Summer Layering Dress

Hope you all had a great weekend and for those that celebrate Father's day, I hope it was a great day filled with lots of love.  This Father's day was especially tough for me since it marks my dad's passing   2 years ago.  I have not experienced much death in my life and it still hurts and I miss his infectious laugh and friendly ways.

One of the things that I learned after he passed was how good hearted he was.  When my dad retired, he used to drive to the bus depot and catch the bus to go to town to pick up things.  He made friends with the elderly Chinese people on the bus and gave ride home to them so they don't have to wait and transfer to another bus to get home.   We are all so addicted to our phones now days that we barely even talk to anyone.

So on this day, I just wanted to say - be friendly to every one even if it's just a smile to a stranger.

I wanted to talk about this sweater dress, it's the perfect summer dress.  Why?

  1. It's cotton.  Enough said, who wants to wear polyester in the summer?
  2. It's loose fitting.  I can't stand anything fitted during the summer and it just feels so much better when clothes are loose and comfy.
Our temps were in the 100s this weekend and it was not fun, outfit like these make it a little more bearable.

I have worn this dress pretty much the same way in these outfits.  It's a dress that I know will be on heavy rotation this summer.

What is your summer staple?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Crop Kick Jeans

I wore a brown & grey combo a few weeks ago (post here) and really liked the combo.  I figure if I like it then why not wear it again.  I am also loving my crop kick jeans and continue to wear them.

I just noticed that this outfit is pretty much identical to Monday's post in that it involves a blazer, cami and some crop pants. And my throw back outfit has the same formula.  When it comes to pants, my favorite length is cropped since I love wearing heels and something about adding a blazer always dresses up any outfit.

Switch the pants to a pencil skirt and I am ready for a business meeting.

What is your favorite outfit formula?

Summer Netural

We had a little weekend getaway to San Diego this past weekend to watch my son play in sand soccer tournament.

We started our weekend by having lunch at Hodad's, a burger place that we learned about from watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  This place is an institution in San Diego and is known for their burgers and shakes.  The burger was great and according to my husband and son, the shake was incredible.  Here's a picture of all of us enjoying our burger.

Have you ever been to places featured on a show?  Of course, all the shows make the food look so good and I am glad this one did not disappoint.  I am would love to hear your experience.

Pattern Mixing

I don't really have much to say about this outfit other than I love it.  This outfit is neutral but I really like the mix of patterns make it a little more fun.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Jungle Floral Cami

I wear a lot of blazers to work and and I usually prefer to wear sleeveless tops with them because it just feels more comfortable.  So my closet is full of sleeveless tops and camis.

I added this Jungle Floral Strappy Cami to my closet last month for a summer look.  Today,  I am wearing it with a fun subtle pineapple lace skirt from Ann Taylor.  My office is not one for very whimsical prints so I tend to buy prints that are more basic (my typical m.o. - stripes, polka dots, floral & leopard). I thought this skirt was a fun way to incorporate a whimsical print without being too obvious.
