Altered

I am not one to shop at thrift stores and it's not because I am not about recycling but more the lack of patience and time.  Patience is not a strong trait of mine (just ask my husband).  I am going to digress here and share a story about a date I went with my husband when we first started dating.

I don't remember where we went but all I remember that he was driving me home.  As a habit, I love to have my keys out before I even get home.  In this situation, I pulled out my keys about 5 minutes away from the house.  I didn't think anything of it, just that I like to be prepared.  Months later, my husband thought that I could not wait to end the date.  He thought it was such a bad date that I wanted to just jump out of the car and leave him.

So what's this got to do with today's post?  Nothing really other than that I didn't buy this dress brand new.  I was back home in Hawaii last year visiting my family and my sister left a bag of clothes for me to go through.  We are not the same size but when I saw this dress, I remember how badly I had wanted this dress but it sold out.

So I was so excited when I saw that this dress was in the pile and still with tags on it.  I decided to take a chance and take it to a tailor and get it altered.  It only cost me about $20 which I was pleasantly surprised since it's lined and they had to take in a few places.

I may not be a thrifter but if any of my friends reading this want to get rid of clothes, let me look though your things first :)

This floral lace skirt sometimes stumps me because I always feel like I need to have some green in my top.  I don't own much green pieces and the dress worked out perfectly as a top.

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up; Chambray Blazer

I knew that a chambray blazer would be a great closet staple for me and I have been grabbing it time and time again when I am stuck with what blaze to wear.  It's been extremely hot here in California and luckily my office is freezing cold so I still need to wear a blazer to the office most days.

Here's 2 very similar looks that I wore recently with my blazer and by chance the same pair of shoes and bag too.  I think I must just really love this color scheme.

It was so hot when I wore this outfit, I think it was already in the high 80s when we taking the pictures at 7 am that I had to take off the blazer.

Totally unrelated but my husband hates this necklace.  It bugs him so much that it is so off centered.  He is always trying to fix it and I have to keep reminding him that it's meant to be this way.  He thinks I got ripped off with a defective necklace.

This outfit was inspired by one of my IG buddies, Andrea of Tweed and Toile.  I love how she paired the gingham with these heels (here) and since I have both items, I thought I would wear it together too.

Under the Sea pants

I chatted last Monday about the lack of printed pants in my closet.  I have always been self conscious of my thighs and think that when you wear a bold pattern, it just draw more attention to it.

These pants are going to be the boldest most colorful pants I have ever owned.  I saw it on clearance, tried it on and fell in love.  They were just too fun to pass up.

To go along with the under the sea theme, I paired it with a shell necklace.  I did try to tone down the look with solid colors.  I think these pants would look great with stripes too.

I guess go bold or go home right?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: White Work Pants

My son goes to year round school and started 3rd grade last week.  What I love about year round school is that summer break is short so it feels like he didn't forget his study habits and things he learned.  And what I really look forward to with year round school is the fall break.

In the past several years, we have gone back home to Hawaii for our break to visit family and friends.  This year is our 10 year wedding anniversary so we thought it would be great to visit some place else.

Right now we are planing to visit Hong Kong and China and feeling a bit overwhelmed since it is such a large country with so much to see.  Not being able to speak the language fluently and not trusting the water and hotels, I figured it will be easier with a travel planner.  We are so unprepared that we still have not gotten our passports yet (oops).

With the recent #BREXIT we are also considering England because of the exchange rate.  Of course, if I am flying all the way across the pond, I want to visit more than just England.  I lived in London for 6 months in college and would love to see all the changes that has happened.

My son and husband wants to go Atlantis for the water slides.  I think it will be too similar to Hawaii.

I am at such a loss as to where to visit.    What vacation plans do you have coming up?

I don't really have much to say about this outfit but that I love the different shades of blue with the orange.  I love tops that color combos that I don't normally use and it makes an outfit feel so unique.

Here's a throw back to May when I paired these pants with lace and gingham (original post here).

The Most Comfiest Pants

I love patterns on clothes but have struggled wearing patterned pants.  I have current have 2 pair of pants that I wear on a regular basis that are striped pants and gingham pants which sort of doesn't feel too intimidating since it's just 2 colors.  I have been wanting a floral pair but all the ones that I've tried just felt too busy and draw too much attention to my thighs.

I recently ordered these Ikat pants as an order filler to avoid shipping.  When I got them on, I tried them on and fell in love.  They are so beyond comfortable and feels like I am wearing pajamas.  Note to self:  when ordering them as filler maybe I should order in the wrong size so I have to return them.

If you follow me on IG, you may have seen me asking for opinions in this post.  These pants are very bold and colorful.  It screams look at me which I am not a fan of but when I tried it on, I fell in love.  I items that can be worn with so many colors.  I ended up purchasing it and now just have to find the courage to wear them.

How do you feel about patterned pants?

Throw Back Thursday Fashion Link Up: Obi Belt

I am a firm believer that accessories really make an outfit.  And belts are one of my favorite way to add an accessory.  I love how it help to create a smaller waist and define an outfit.  I have belts that are sparkly, stripes, florals....you name it, I have it.

My latest belt obsession is this braided obi wrap belt from WHBM.  I have been wearing it non stop and felt it really completed this look.

What piece for you is makes your outfit?

Plaid Tunic 3 Ways

One thing you don't see much on this blog are tunics.  I just have a hard time styling them and visually, I think it makes me look shorter too.

I was browsing Anthropologies website and this tunic was in the sale section with additional discounts.  I liked that it had buttons down the front so I can wear it open or closed and really like how it looked in the photos.  They showed tunic worn several ways so I thought it was a good piece to give it a try.

The tunic was just sitting in my closet and I just did not have the courage to use it.  When Adrienne of The Rich Life in Wine Country and Jill of Everything Just So announced their them for How I Wear Series theme was tunics I figured it it was time to bust out my tunic.  Did I mentioned that I've had this tunic for over a year?

So hear are 3 ways I've worn this tunic. I don't know why I waited so long to wear this, I actually really like it.

I have never worn my crop top with low rise jeans.  I felt a little exposed showing some of my belly in this outfit but the tunic made me feel a little more covered up.
